Y-ME Illinois Welcomes New Program and Volunteer Staff

Our newest staff members, Phoebe Harlan, Program Coordinator, and Laura McDougal, Volunteer Coordinator, have hit the ground running and many of you have likely already heard from them as they reach out to introduce themselves to our many dedicated volunteers and partners.

Laura McDougal is a recent graduate of Miami University in Ohio. She has worked for a YMCA summer camp for the past five years where she was responsible for program and staff coordination.  The rewarding experiences and strong relationships she gained at camp inspired her to purse a career in the non-profit sector. Laura is thrilled to join the Y-ME Illinois staff and volunteers as they work toward making Y-ME programs available to the entire state of Illinois.  She is also making the most of living in such a vibrant and diverse city, having just moved from her hometown of Carmel, Indiana.

Phoebe Harlan is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and spent the last two years as a Teach for America corps member, teaching low income children on the southside of Chicago.  Having perfected the “teacher look,” Phoebe is now excited to be part of Y-ME Illinois. She feels inspired to be surrounded by such motivated and optimistic women and is hopeful that the creation of the two separate positions — Program Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator — will allow Y-ME Illinois even greater opportunities to expand our programs and services as we work to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone.
