economic, community, and tourism development, and how the arts and culture support these initiatives. Join leaders from
across the state for a
one-day workshop and networking opportunity presented by the Virginia Alliance of Local Arts Agencies (VALAA) and hosted by the Arts
Council of the Valley in Harrisonburg's downtown Arts and
Cultural District.
Workshop topics:
- Economic Development Initiatives such as Michigan's "Cool Cities"
- National Perspectives on The Arts and Economic Development
- Community Revitalization through Arts and Cultural Districts
- Community Cultural Planning
Featured Speakers:
The workshop is aimed at staff, business leaders, commission/board
members, students, volunteers and elected officials in the fields of arts and culture, parks and recreation, economic development, planning and
community development, tourism and industry.

Virginia Alliance of Local Arts Agencies (VALAA) is an informal
networking organization that works to strengthen and develop local arts agencies across the Commonwealth. It does so with support from the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the Virginians for the Arts Foundation. Piedmont Council of the Arts
is
proud to be a member of the Virginia Alliance of Local Arts Agencies.
Piedmont Council of the Arts (PCA) is the designated arts agency of
Charlottesville and Albemarle County, with outreach to Fluvanna,
Greene, Nelson, Orange, Staunton and Waynesboro. PCA has promoted the arts in our region for nearly thirty years, encouraging relationships between
local artists, arts organizations, and the vibrant communities that support them.
