Food, Travel, and Rock 'n Roll

Yes, The Three Tomatoes do remember when it was sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll.  But at our ages, two out of three ain't bad, and frankly food and travel are pretty darn exciting.  Which is our lame segue into this week's email which is about web sites we've recently discovered.  And as you know, when we come across web sites we like, we share them with you.  We especially like topic/theme related web sites that bring things to us all in one easy to find place.  So here are a few of our new favorites.

All about Food

Food, glorious, food.   Food411 is a terrific resource for food lovers.    It's a gateway to finding wonderful food and food related products online. You can get gourmet foods like lobsters from Maine and chef prepared frozen gourmet meals delivered to your door from websites like The Magic Kitchen;  you'll also find links to web sites with every kind of cooking ingredient that even Martha Stewart couldn't image from places like Adriana's Caravan;  plus recipes, cooking and food blogs;  every kind of  kitchen tool or cooking item you could ever want and some that you didn't know existed.  For example, you'll find a link to Broadway Panhandler, which has long been one of The Three Tomatoes favorite cooking stores in NYC.  Food411 uncovers new products all the time, with a focus on artisinal and they update their web site daily.  Check it out.

2000 Calories

So after you've bought all those great gourmet items thanks to your finds through Food411, you may be  needing a little help keeping your calories in check.   Well 2000cal.com is a really great "free" web site that let's you calculate your carb, calorie, fat and vitamin needs.  You just type in your food and 2000cal.com will do the calculations.   In addition to a food diary you can also log your exercise into the calculator too.   It's a great web site with free applications that a lot of other web sites would charge you to use.

Travel Search Engine Sites

We know you tomatoes are a traveling bunch and with so many travel web sites out there, how do you know if you're getting the best fares, or your favorite airline (or should be say least objectionable airline), or the best schedules?  Well a while back we told you about Kayak, one of the recent breeds of super travel search sites that basically scourer all the airline sites and the travel web sites.  If you see a fare you want, you click into whichever site is offering that fare.  The good news is you'll get hundreds of results within a minute.   The bad news is you'll get hundreds of results within a minute, which can definitely be a bit daunting.   Which is why were excited to discover Mobissimo.com.

Like Kayak, Mobissimo pulls options from the popular travel booking sites like Orbitz and Travelocity, but it's not quite as overwhelming.  And as you know, The Three Tomatoes are in a "less is more phase".  And it's very easy to use with quick results.

And don't forget about Seat Guru.com.   Ever been stuck in a coach seat cross country that doesn't recline?  Or one that's practically in the bathroom?  Well go to Seat Guru before you click your seat selection.  This site provides detailed information (material, amount of legroom, location of video monitors and exit rows, whether there's a power port for your laptop nearby, etc.) by airline and type of aircraft.

Rock and Roll is here to stay

Let's say you're sitting in your office listening to your iTunes, or riding around in your car with the radio blaring, or eating and planning your next trip when and you get a flash back to that Grateful Dead concert you went to in 1973.   Well then, just check out  Wolfgang's Vault (go to Vault Concerts) and you can listen to selections from live concerts from the 1960's through the 1980's while you're sitting at your computer.   This week's featured concert for example is Elton John, live at the Filmore West in November 1970.  You'll also find The Doors, The Stones, Bob Marley, Aretha Franklin and lots more.  You'll feel like "partying like its 1969."

Peace and love,

'til next week
