Earn it. Keep it. Save it.

Rachel Freeze, United Way Nashville

Did you know that there is a tax credit designed specifically to help lift your lower-income workers out of poverty and into financial stability — and that it can equate to a $2 an hour pay raise for low-income workers with no cost to the employer?

To help ensure that Nashville's working families are filing for the tax credits they have earned and to help them save hundreds of dollars in commercial tax fees and predatory "rapid refund" loans, the Nashville Wealth Building Alliance (NWBA) coordinates Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) awareness. Families making a household income of less than $40,000 can access VITA sites all over the city and have their taxes prepared for free!   The EITC is one of the most effective anti-poverty programs in America and lifts more children out of poverty than any single program or category of programs in the United States.  Our VITA sites ensure that eligible families receive their often-unclaimed Earned Income Tax Credit.

As stated by Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell, “The assistance this program offers to an increasing number of Nashville families is invaluable.”

If you are interested in promoting the free tax preparation service with your eligible employees, please contact Rachel Freeze at 615-780-2444.

The NWBA is a broad-based collaboration of partners dedicated to promoting financial stability for low- and moderate-income families in Nashville.
