File Sharing | BitTorrent
The battle of file sharing programs continues and will always be a concern for houses.
BitTorrent is an example of the ability for users to share files via the Internet, both sending a receiving. In most cases receiving is not a
bandwidth issue, but it is sending that can slow down the Internet or stop it entirely. While Cisco hardware can do limited packet shaping, it is not
100% fool-proof thus allowing more advanced users to bypass it.
To help alleviate the slowness and the legal ramifications associated with illegal file sharing, we recommend setting up content filtering. If
blocking the content is not important to the house but prioritizing the information is, then a dedicated packet shaping device should be
installed. A Packet Shaper will guarantee that certain types of traffic will always have high priority while everything else will have a lower
priority. This will allows users to do web surfing, e-mail, and other critical applications. File sharing activity will still be possible,
but will not interfere.

content filtering and packet shaping and which one best fits your needs.
