Welcome to New & Returning Members!
This fall, BwB Connecticut will partner with 20 schools in southern Connecticut and Westchester
County to host after-school programs. We offer a special welcome to three new schools joining us this year: Stratford High School in Stratford,
Trumbull High
School in Trumbull, and Notre Dame High School in Fairfield. We also welcome Jessica Jarahian, Program & Lead Coordinator, to the BwB team. She'll be
working with
schools in Stamford and Westchester. Together, we look forward to another great year of service, education, sponsorship and fun! Click here to visit

Trek Team Helps Educate Children, Rain or
Shine
A community called "Villa Austria" might not sound like it belongs in Central America but that is
the name of a Nicaraguan village where 13 Building with Books members from Connecticut and New York helped to build a school this summer. In
the
past, children had to walk to a neighboring village to attend school but if it rained and the road was flooded out, they couldn't get to school. This
fall, thanks to a partnership between BwB, its high school members and the villagers, children will attend their new school even when it rains.

CT Lead Team's Summer Service Brings Smiles
This summer, the CT Lead Team, made up of youth in BwB's yearlong
leadership program, had the opportunity to volunteer at Harborview Towers in Bridgeport, home to many elderly residents and people with disabilities.
The high school students brightened up the residents' days, not only by bringing in flowers and making original art for the complex, but by cooking
and serving meals and spending time with the residents and their families. Read more.

Training Sessions Rejuvenate Students &
Advisors
In August, the CT Region held valuable training sessions for BwB program officers and advisors.
At the CT Program Summit, nearly 50 students attended a full day of workshops to prepare for the new year. Many of the sessions were co-facilitated
by BwB students including Sabrina
Jean
Baptiste from Kolbe Cathedral, Angela Zhou and Keben Perez from Westhill, and Emma Crisci and Nicole Press from Norwalk High School. For
advisors, BwB held one day of sessions for new advisors and another day for all advisors so they would have the opportunity to learn from each other
as
well as exchange ideas and challenges. The advisors and students all said they look forward to another great year of BwB.
