Crystal Reports 2008 Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better, Business Objects
improved and simplified the Crystal Reports product. Crystal Reports
2008 was released in November and lays the foundation for the next generation of information delivery. Rock-Pond Solutions has cracked open
the product like an early Christmas present and is excited to use it to exploit our customers' data and redefine how they get and use the
information they need. There's not telling what we'll do with this new tool! Go ahead, download your free 30

Customer Case Study:
Home Infusion Provider turns to Rock-Pond to provide Crystal Reports
training Organizations are recognizing they
don’t have the information they need. The data is there but it is trapped in different systems. Home Infusion software vendors
realize their systems produce data repositories that offer limitless opportunity for business value, beyond the scope of the feature set of their
systems. Recently, one of America's leading healthcare systems engaged Rock-Pond Solutions to teach them to use the Crystal Reports
reporting product to query HAI’s HomecareNet data structures to get the reports they need. Cyndi Monk, Systems Administrator and one of
the students said, “I want to thank Rock-Pond for the Crystal Reports and SQL course. The training has far exceeded my
expectations. When I was able to do the A/R detail report, it really boosted my confidence. We’re working through month end and
other reports requested by users on our to-do list.” The benefits of learning to develop reports against your data go way beyond the reports you are able to produce. You
also end up with a deeper understanding of how your software works, how your business process are interrelated and are able to take
the implementation of technology to a higher level as a result.

Reports of the
Month
Each month Rock-Solid Intelligence features a report from Home
Infusion Reports that give you critical business information from the data you already have.
System Access and Security Reports
There are many business and compliance reasons to set up users with the right access
rights. The problem is, it’s hard to know what people need when you are setting up the system, some people perform multiple functions,
on call personnel need varied access and user access needs change throughout the lifecycle of a system. In CPR+, for example, there are
hundreds of privileges you can grant or restrict from a user. The good news is you can set up standard user templates. You can also
override templates at the user privilege level. Good system audit processes provide a way to monitor access privileges on an ongoing basis to
mitigate risk and loss. Here are some reports that will help you in the process:

System
Insights
Rock-Pond's mission is to help
you maximize the benefit you receive from your information systems. Each month we provide an insight related to system implementation,
resetting an established system, system audits and common system errors.
Implementation: Integrating consumer technology – or not My Space, RSS feeds, blogs, instant messaging, podcasts, iPhones, Facebook, Google maps, text
messages and the list goes on. Consumer technologies have hit mainstream and are knocking on the door of your company. Who’s
there? Your employees, customers, referral sources and business partners. Within the next few years, 100 percent of the people in the 18
– 35 age group will be natives of the digital environment and their expectations are being set by this environment. What's
your opportunity? Organizations that leverage consumer
technologies allow their staff to better manage personal and professional demands and present a more friendly face to the outside world.
These are the organizations that will win.
→Action item: Notice the technologies your employees are using. Ask them how they feel they could be utilized in your company and to interact with
others outside the company. Be willing to take a chance. Integrate consumer technology into your personal life, even if you feel you
don't need it. Most of all, understand the security concerns these technologies introduce and mitigate your risk.
Management: Get it right from the start with an accurate patient
census Too often home infusion providers base their expectations of
future results on an inaccurate or misunderstood census. Future revenues are estimated on the payer/therapy mix of your current census.
How many new patients, where did they come from, which patients were discharged or went on hold due to hospitalization or some other cause.
Grouping patients by their primary insurance isn’t very valuable if their primary insurance doesn’t cover their therapy. Counting
patients as active misrepresents the value of your census if you haven’t made a delivery to the patient in 45 days. An accurate census
will not only support the clinical management of your patients, it will get you started in the right direction in forecasting future revenue
and cash flow.
→Action item: Assure your daily process will
provide the check and balance to verify that your census is correct. Enforce the minimum data standards in the patient intake
process. Don't expect your census (or your financial forecasts) to be accurate if your employees use a big white board to determine workload
and spreadsheets to report census.
Audit: System access requirements change as a systems stabilizes When you are implementing a new system it is often “all hands on deck”, helping one
another learn how to do their job, correcting mistakes, entering data from old systems, working with patient data from other sites, etc. HIPAA
and good business sense demand flexible security access roles and the software vendors have, for the most part, responded. But be sure
to review user privileges regularly to make sure that they conform to their current position. Don’t get caught with a dozen
“super users” in your system or terminated employees who still have logins to the system.
→Action item: Establish a system access audit function outside the group
who is responsible for the administration of your information system. Document standard privileges by job function and audit these at least once a
year. Audit compliance at least twice per year.

Credit Balances, an overlooked problem – Pearl Shores, Shores
Enterprises Without an
ongoing process to address overpayments and incorrect pricing calculations, credit balances will creep into your accounts receivable. This
situation can have significant financial, legal and productivity implications. Fortunately, this is an area that is easy to get control of if you understand it and do
something about it. Read how
NHIA Listserv Lessons – Compounding Question I have a pharmacist that
insists that it is necessary to use empty containers to make compounds that go on pumps in order to avoid any potential error from the overfill in a
pre-manufactured fluid container. Other pharmacists are ok with removing a specified volume from a 250 or 500ml bag to achieve the final
volume, as long as the over-fill is accounted for. Would anyone be willing to comment on their policy on their methods for preparing these
types of compounds? Read Listserv responses and Rock-Pond

Technology Tip of the
Month
Each month
Rock-Solid Intelligence shares a technology tip or software program that has made our work a little easier.
That’s not JUST a mobile phone you’re talking on! We all have them, phones that do everything! We
can E-mail, browse the Internet, message each other, listen to music, play videos, and yes, even make phone calls. So why do we pay monthly and use
fees for so many duplicate devices?
- Hook your phone into your laptop via a USB cable and use it as an Internet gateway device, enabling full Internet
access on your laptop computer from wherever you are! This service is usually provided for a small monthly fee ranging from 10 to 20 dollars a month,
depending on your provider and service plan. Get rid of that expensive computer card or daily fee from your hotel.
- Feeling lost? Press the “Where am I” button on your Blackberry and let
the friendly voice lead you to your destination. Hertz NeverLost? Not necessary.
With sales, delivery and clinical staff in the
field and on the road, consider how you can cut costs and consolidate your technology into one device. It’s the tip of the productivity iceberg for 2008.
There is no such thing as an IT project -- there are business projects that leverage technology to enable them. Once businesses
understand that fact, then they understand that there must be joint business and IT accountability to deliver against expectations. -- Dave Bent, SVP
and CIO of United Stationers
