Rise of the YP tide
By Adam Small

We have all heard the expression "A rising tide raises all boats." Though it is a simple axiom of physics, the real-world application is often lost as each of us goes to work every day, striving to excel and finding time to enjoy the summer sunshine. We tend to focus on our own lives, our individual activities and aspirations.

Thinking back to just a few years ago, each YP organization's sole focus was their ship -- their programs, their members, their events and their revenue. This approach to navigating your ship in isolation is outdated, and simply will not survive. This becomes truer every day when we realize that, with more than 40 YP organizations in the Nashville area, we are all part of a fleet much larger and greater than any one organization.

YPs get it. We understand the need to work together, to find similarities and not differences; the eagerness to reach across county, race, gender and industry lines. There are no boundaries; we sail the Cumberland together. Let us lead the way.

Every YP who becomes active and engaged in our community -- regardless of where, why or how -- raises the tide. Every source of energy helps propel Middle Tennessee toward the future community we collectively strive to create. The next time you have a moment to reflect on where you want to make a difference, focus on the tide in this region and make some waves.
