Dear Friend,
What to tell you about first. Well first - God is faithful! Let's start there. His plans are not our plans and His ways are not our
ways, and
for that I am thankful. I learned that this weekend... again!
It started with a phone call while loading up 65 of us on Friday afternoon... "there is no power in Pagosa, nor at Snow Wolf Lodge," which meant no
water. No water means no toilets and no showers... Huh, wonder if we should cancel... Nah!
We drove to camp through a mixture of rain, snow, and sleet safely. We did club by firelight and with one really good flashlight. We had to cancel
our outdoor relay and did cabin time by candlelight. We melted snow to put in the toilets to flush when they began smelling. What a great first
night!
POWER - it came on at 1:40 AM, and as it did so did our cabin. It was as if these kids had never had
it before. Funny what you miss when it is gone.
The morning went smooth. Hot breakfast, lunches made, on the road by 8:15 to Wolf Creek pass. About 20 minutes from the ski hill we came to a stop.
Cars passing us told us to turn around, there'd been an avalanche and 3 cars were stuck in it. Back in Pagosa we decided to head to Durango Mtn to at
least get in a half day. That 1:30-2 hr drive turned into 3 as we drove together with everyone else who had wanted to go to Wolf Creek!
We skied and boarded and had a great time at Durango - and got back to camp around 7:15 and ate dinner at 7:45 thanks to our great work crew, headed
up by Chef Keith and Chef Roena & fry cooks Hannah and Silas. (I highly recommend them). We had club that night with sound system and lights. Later
we were treated to a concert by Nate Allman (a gifted musician from
AZ).
Sunday we had another great breakfast, a YL club, cabin time and cleaned and headed home! Just like we had planned. What a splendid weekend! I lost
10 years off my life.
Why is it you can always see clearer on the other side of trials?
This weekend was hard, but Jesus met us. We were discouraged, challenged, stressed, disappointed, blessed, wowed, amazed, and overwhelmed. That is a
lot
to have gone through in 48 hours. No wonder we are tired!
Let's end this long note where we started... God is faithful. He kept us safe while driving. Provided quality speaking in Jon and set up
solid cabin times with his talks. He gave us laughter in
John and Joey (program). Blessed us by Nate's music, and allowed us to see Him more clearly. We had to trust Him with so many details, lack of
water, power, toilets, not able to ski at wolf creek, and driving further. And at the
end of the weekend I got this text message from a student leader... "This weekend changed 'girl's name' life. She said "I want a
relationship with
God." It now makes sense. God was orchestrating a weekend to remember that would change at least one
life! Praise Jesus!
God is faithful. AMEN!
May your Christmas be filled with Jesus Christ. May His presence be evident this Season. May His love pour over you and your family!
Thank you for Praying! It has changed lives.
In His grip,
ryan
