Successful Southeastern Conference for IFC
Courtney Underwood
Todd Smith, of Kappa Alpha Order, joined the rest of the IFC
Executive and Associate Executive members attending the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference (SEIFC) in Atlanta, Georgia this weekend, and was
honored to be named Area Four’s vice president.
As vice president, Todd will represent Area Four, one of four
sections of the conference that includes the state of Tennessee, as he controls part of the budget and plans for next year’s
conference.
IFC members attended classes from February 14 to 17 with other council members in
the southeast that hold the same positions. “We learned different things related to each of our offices from other
councils, and from specialists that led the classes, that we can bring back to our council,” said Nathan Haynes, IFC President. |
Think Pink
Todd Smith
Breast cancer is a fear that resides in
the heart of almost every woman. Instead of letting that fear continue to exist, the MTSU community has decided to fight back.
Along with almost 600 other schools, MTSU
has started to “Think Pink.” By raising awareness, we have started to show that, as a community, we will find a way
to defeat cancer so that our daughters will be able to live a life without fear of the horrible ailment.
Every Greek organization has started
turning their attention to the problem. For example, Alpha Gamma Rho raised money through donations and fund raising to take 30 young leaders from
the Boys and Girls Club to the “Think Pink” MTSU basketball game which took place on February 17th. The Blue Raiders gave those
children something to cheer about when they beat Western Kentucky University 68 to 60. The proceeds from the game went to Breast Cancer research and
awareness.
Because of its success, MTSU plans to make the
“Think Pink” game a tradition. The Greek community would like to congratulate AGR on their community service, and we would also like to
congratulate the MTSU women’s basketball team on their win. |

Greek of the Week/ZTA Lipsync
Kerri Gass
This week's Greek of the Week goes to the
President of Zeta Tau Alpha, Tracie Henson!
Tracie has been active in Zeta since she
joined in Fall 2005. Her freshman year she served as Family Relations chair, planning family weekends and mother luncheons. The next year she served
as Scholastic Chairman on the Executive Council.
Tracie was also a 2007 Rho Sigma and after she
reaffiliated with her chapter she served as Vice President of Programming Council.
Most, recently this Spring, Tracie took over
as President of Zeta, and they have had a pretty busy semester! The chapter is currently taking a Spring pledge class of 8 girls and expecting 4 or 5
more girls. This is HUGE for a Panhellenic sorority Spring pledge class. Congratulations Tracie!
Zeta is also looking forward to LipSync! LipSync will be held
Thursday, February 28, in Tucker Theatre at 7 pm. Tickets are $7 and can be bought from any ZTA member. They will also be sold in the KUC on the 27
and 28. Tickets will be $10 at the door. They are also selling t-shirts for the event which will be $12. All proceeds go to benefit Breast Cancer
education, awareness, and research. |
Leadership Service's New Asst. Director
Todd
Smith
Greeks are natural leaders, and now we
have a new way to sharpen our leadership skills.
If you are in the KUC make sure to stop by
Student Life to meet the newly created position of Assistant Director of Leadership Services, Heather Arrington. She will be more then happy to answer
any questions you may have about being a leader in today’s world.
Her desire to set the standard for the new
position has already become evident to those that work around her. When asked about what she wants to achieve, Heather quickly replied,
“I am looking forward to getting to know the needs of the leaders on campus and helping raise the awareness of the service opportunities on
campus and in the community.”
Heather may not be Greek, but she does realize
our role as leaders. Her willingness to work with Greek Life and students is evident in her smile and approachable demeanor.
We as Greeks should never let a chance to become better leaders go to waste, so let’s all make sure to stop by her office (right across from
Carrie’s office) to say hello to Heather.
