Transportation Committee Meets 8/30
The
Transportation Advisory Committee will hold a special meeting at 5:00pm
on Thursday, August 30. This replaces the regularly scheduled meeting
for September, which falls on Labor Day. Of special interest for next
week will be a public hearing on the Road Impact Fee Update. The City
regularly reevaluates impact fees due to growth and the rising costs
for road construction. Impact fees are paid by developers to help fund
new roadway construction, and costs to build roads have doubled in the
last several years. This study also includes the Mack Hatcher Parkway
Extension for the first time, since this project is now underway. Fees
are going up so it should be an interesting meeting.
TMA Produced Air Care Show Gets National Recognition
The
TMA Group develops and produces a monthly cable educational television
show, "Air Care". The show is part of the Clean Air Partnership of
Williamson County program. "Air Care" is the only TV series in the U.S.
that addresses transportation, pollution, environmental, health, etc.
issues. On Thursday, August 16 the US Department of
Transportation/Federal Highway Administration office contacted TMA
requesting permission to place this show on the "It All Adds Up to
Cleaner Air" exchange. They applaud the work and content of the show,
and feel that it would be of benefit to the entire air quality and
transportation community. An additional bonus of this opportunity, is
on a national level the show spotlights the visionary leadership of
Williamson County and its municipalities by the implementation and use
of alternative modes of transportation, such as the vanpool program and
Franklin's public transportation system. This is quite an honor, and I
offer my complements to the TMA Group for their efforts.
