David Sedaris Autographed copies available
In his sixth collection, David Sedaris brings together a set of uproariously funny and profoundly moving essays. In "The Understudy," the Sedaris siblings unite to battle the odious babysitter Mrs. Peacock, while in "Town and Country," Sedaris and his sister discuss what their father would be most offended to find on his daughter's coffee table (hint: The Joy of Sex comes in a distant second). An avid traveler, Sedaris entertains readers with his experiences around the globe, from sitting in a Parisian doctor's office wearing only his underwear, to warding off birds in the French countryside. The collection culminates in a brilliantly funny account of his journey to Tokyo to quit smoking. Hardcover, $25.99 Publisher: Little, Brown & Company, ISBN-13: 9780316143479

William Gibson
SF innovator Gibson ( Neuromancer, Pattern Recognition) has written another novel set in the near-present, as three separate groups chase after a mysterious freight container. But, despite a full complement of thieves, pushers and pirates, Spook Country is less a conventional thriller than a reflection of the currents of dread, dismay and fury that permeate our culture. "Gibson's work is all edge and chill and incipient panic...His worlds are so striking, so plausible, that you're just happy to be along for the ride." – Chicago Tribune Paperback, $15.00 Publisher: Penguin Group (USA); ISBN-13: 9780425221419

In the aftermath, Keith and his family are profoundly affected as a new reality takes over everyone's consciousness. Michael Tolliver, the sweet-spirited Southerner in Armistead Maupin's classic Tales of the City series, is one of the most widely loved characters in contemporary fiction. Michael is now in his mid-fifties (despite AIDS) and happy in his relationship, his house, and his job. Thirty years later, he's still proud of the life he's made and the city that made it possible. Though this is a stand-alone novel — accessible to fans of Tales of the City and new readers alike — a reassuring number of familiar faces appear along the way. Jo Tatchell tells the gripping story of the family and their fateful encounter with history. Starting with a lighthearted look at the family before Saddam's rule, she describes Nabeel’s persecution and daring flight in an intimate chronicle of a country and a culture devastated by political repression and war.
