2012 January Oz News
Wiz Words

By Larry and Melinda Venn

Thank you all for the warm welcomes and pledges of assistance in the coming year.  Larry and I are lifelong residence of Wichita now living in the county northeast of Derby. We’ve been married 33 years; have 3 adult children and three grandchildren.  We also have three dogs, three horse, a barn cat and two chickens. Bicycling is one of many outdoor activities our family enjoys along with camping, hiking, skiing (water & snow), motorcycles, four wheelers and horses.

Cecile Kellenbarger was my friend and co-worker. It was she who shared her enthusiasm of biking and the OZ bike club that led us to expand our bicycling horizon. We are also active with the Prairie Travelers and Bike Walk Alliance (BWA) of Wichita.

We attended the Oz Christmas party last Saturday and enjoyed it immensely. The fellowship was great and the white elephant gift exchange was very entertaining.  Delores presented mileage patches to many club members and introduced the new club pin that is now available for purchase and an option to the patch for new members.  Many volunteers and board members for 2011 were recognized and applauded.  Helen Waite will again be chairing the Wicked Wind 100 for 2012 and the first planning meeting announced. All were encouraged to attend and volunteer. Also Vickie Carter has agreed to continue as the Social Chair for 2012. Thank you Vickie!

Larry and I want to extend our thanks to all those who volunteered and chaired all the different activities for the Oz club in 2011. We will be contacting those members thanking them for their service and to see if they would like to carry on for 2012. Once that is completed we will be contacting other Oz members to fill the chair positions that are vacated. Oz is what it is because of its members who volunteer. Please consider volunteering or chairing for an activity in 2012. We thank you in advance for your service and look forward to an exciting 2012.

Wicked Wind Meeting

By Helen Wait

The first planning meeting was held on Monday evening December 12,  6:00 P.M.  There were 10 Ozzies in attendance.

The committee chose the 2012 Logo to be used on all Wicked   Wind 100 materials especially the front of this year's Tee-shirt.

We also chose the color for the Tee-shirt and completed several other decisions, so we are rolling toward another successful ride.

The next meeting will be on Monday, January 9th at 6:00 P.M. at 1605  North Waterfront Parkway, Kutak/Rock, and Ste 105.   Everyone is  invited to be there!

Social Report

By Vickie Carter

It was nice to see so many people attend the Christmas party. I hope everyone had a good time and enjoyed all the delicious food there was to eat. Thanks to the many volunteers who show up and lend a helping hand. Emma and James, you probably have dish pan hands from all the dishes you washed,

Thanks so much! Hope to see everyone in the coming year. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday.
