2011 February Oz News
Wicked Wind 100

Wicked Wind 100 planning has begun.

The first planning meeting was held January 10th with 14 brave Ozzies in attendance.  We covered a lot of ground, but there is still much more to do and you can be a part of it.

The next meeting will be February 14 at 5:30 PM at the Waterfront location.  The list of volunteers has already started signing up, don't be left out!

Hidden assets are things that benefit you but are seldom noticed.  Oz has many hidden assets.  One of those hidden assets would be the bicycle shops here in Wichita.  They do the expected things, helping each of us keep on rolling.  They sell us bikes and perform maintenance we are either unable or unwilling to do for ourselves.  But they are also of immense value to Oz.  Every year we prevail on one or another of the shops to let us do packet pickup for Wicked Wind.  We ask them to help us by being roving mechanics when we have major events such as Wicked Wind.  Often they have provided very interesting programs for the Oz member meetings.  Yes, I do understand that they are tending to their business, but it seems to me we are richly blessed as a Club by these shops.  You might want to be sure to let them know that Oz appreciates their support.  Another hidden asset is in the form of the many volunteers who step up to the plate each year.  We have a tireless gang of social chairs, touring chairs, vice-Wizards, and Jay and Roxanne taking care of the newsletter as well.  Remember to appreciate our assets!

The weather is cold & frosty with a bit of snow & ice.  But those of us who never like to take time off the bicycle will still have chances to get out & ride even in the most extreme conditions.

The rides are scheduled & we are ready to roll…I personally hope to see all of you for the “Tour de Colwich” ride for my birthday in March.  It will be a great time for us all to ride, while enjoying a fun time for us afterwards at Gambino’s Pizza.

See you out there!

Keep on Trekkin!
