2011 July Oz News
Wiz Words

By Delores Craig

Have you noticed how many charity bicycle rides there are these
days?  Many worthy causes have recognized the popularity of bicycling and these rides make great opportunities for getting together with your cycling friends and raising money at the same time.  What a deal.  I think such rides raise awareness of some important causes such as MS and diabetes, and also aids in fundraising for such diverse groups as the homeless and those in need of shelter.  Don’t be afraid to jump in and join the fun.  I am sure you will find many people willing to support your ride.

I cannot let pass an opportunity to thank the touring chairs for doing a great job of providing opportunities.  Barbara Harris did the first three months, and had to put up with  alot of bad weather messing up her plans.  Ardath and Gary did the second three months, and really gave us a diverse offering, with camping weekends, and tailwind rides, to say nothing of a nice variety each month.   Frank and Sandy Lander are up to bat now, giving us some great choices again.  Steve McRae is the one leading the charge for the final three months.  Let’s hope the weather is a friend to all of the rides.

I cannot leave out mentioning the need for water and care in the heat that usually accompanies August.  Remember to take good care of yourself out there.  Sports drinks and energy bars are both important when you are trying to beat the heat.  Take care of yourself.

Thank you for all of the members of the Oz Bicycle Club who are willing to step up to bat for the organization & help out to fill needed positions.  We definitely couldn’t do it without those of you who are helping keep the Club on track with countless hours of volunteerism.

    Keep on trekkin!

Treats List for Up-Coming Meetings

Treats were enjoyed at last month’s meeting, thanks to Vicki Carter who brought the treats this month.

Don't forget our annual picnic September17.

I know we have been praying for rain all summer, just not on this day. Let's just hope for cooler weather but if not the building is air conditioned. So, plan on bringing a covered dish a long with your bike.

The ride is at 9:00 am beginning and ending at the pavilion.  The meal will follow the ride at Noon.
