I am writing this the day after getting back from RAGBRA I in Iowa. It is the largest weeklong ride in the United States. There is an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 riders everyday. There is a constant stream of riders on the road from daybreak to nightfall. What is so amazing is that every type of person can be seen biking. There were all ages represented, all sizes, and all stages of physical conditioning. They had one thing in common--- they enjoy biking.

I am hoping that those in the Oz Bicycle Club will consider the possibility of running for one of the positions on the Board in the upcoming elections. We are in need of the strong continued leadership to guide & direct the membership in the upcoming year.
It is said that an organization is only as strong & vibrant as those who serve. Such is the case for the election by the membership. If you would like to nominate or be nominated, please do so. Thanks!

Treats List for Up-Coming Meetings
Due to a small snafu we did not have treats for the meeting August 2nd. I take responsibility as I failed to contact the person who volunteered to bring them.
Dennis Hardin will provide treats for the October meeting. In the meantime, we will have our annual picnic.

WE NEED MEMBERS TO RUN FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
The Board meets on the last Monday of the month, the meeting lasts about 90 minutes. We meet at the Wichita Eagle, 825 E. Douglas, Wichita Kansas at 7:00 PM.
The membership is down from years past and getting older, most members have served in more than one office in the past. If the OZ BICYCLE CLUB is to remain the club that we all love, we need your help now!

Man Who Hit Spanish Cyclist
Won't Face Criminal Charges

The man who hit a Spanish cyclist who was riding in the Race Across America in June will not face criminal charges.
The driver was cited for inattentive driving and given a ticket, but police could not determine if there was anything illegal being done to cause the driver to drive onto the shoulder of K-254 Highway. Police checked cell phone records and could not find any evidence that the driver had been using it when he hit the cyclist.
Delaware Governor signs Vulnerable Road Users Bill into law
Today Delaware Governor signed SB 269 into law. The bill, modeled after an Oregon law, enhances the penalty for drivers convicted of careless or inattentive drivers who cause serious physical injury to cyclists, pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. The new law includes sentencing guidelines such as:
- completion of a traffic safety course
- perform up to 100 hours of community service related to driver improvement and providing public education on traffic safety
- fines up to $550
- suspension of driving privileges
