Montana News
Dear Friend,
Welcome to the season!  It's Spring again in Montana- or so the calendar says.  While it may not totally look like much of a green, colorful spring just yet, we know green grass and leaves on the cottonwoods are on their way!  We're excited about the prospects for the upcoming season. Matson, Jeff, and Brooke have been busy putting out new gear and flies as well as finding some time to get on the water.  We've had great spring fishing so far this April and the long awaited Mother's Day caddis are just about to get going (you still have time to plan a weekend getaway).
Bringing you up to date, this past winter has provided Montana with abundant snowfall which will turn into excellent water levels in the rivers for summer. With our snowpack at about 130% of the 30 year norm, a large run-off has been predicted again for this year making it the third year in a row.    Faced with a cool, wet spring and and the increased runoff possibilities, we will most likely not see the Yellowstone River ready to fish until mid-July.  But once it does come into shape, we are poised for incredible hopper and terrestrial dry fly fishing through the best summer months!
It's going to be a great summer and fall throughout our area.   If you missed out last year, don't make that mistake again - grab your gear, and get to Montana.  We look forward to seeing you this summer!

Because this is really cool: Spring Gear Review
Nautilus - FWX series
This killer reel replaces the FW series that has successfully satisfied fly fishers for the last several years. The new FWX  differs from the FW series in that it is almost a half ounce lighter due to Nautilus' new spool design, making them the lightest fully machined aluminum disc drag fly reels on the market.  The advanced spool design features a stainless steel 1-way clutch that is housed in Nautilus' proprietary TORQ-X clutch drive that ensures instant drag engagement with no slack. This also allows the retrieve direction to be easily switched.  Plus, Nautilus has done something we think is really cool.  There's a laser etched  white spot on the back of the spool that you can use a permanent marker to write the line size and type.  Switching lines?  Wipe the spot with a q-tip dipped in alcohol and you have a clean place to write again!  Available in 3 sizes; all are finished in black: FWX 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8, and they are compatible with the older FW reels. To come close to this quality of workmanship and performance you will likely have to spend twice as much as what these reels cost.
