RFID 101

Feedback from APICS members freqently requests presentations regarding inventory / production management and control subjects.  At our October PDM Paul Reed, founder and President of Business Resource Solutions (BSR), will present on the current state of bar coding, RFID, wireless and other digital technologies impacting all of our industries today.

Nearly every publication today has an update regarding RFID and wireless.  Consumer security, patient infringement law suits, release of generation 2 UHF products, RFID ready- molded pallets are just a few of the issues noted in recent periodicals.  The list of articles seems endless.

What was originally perceived in many circles as a novel idea by the likes of Wal-Mart, now is moving towards the industry standard.  Whether tier one, tier two or somewhere further up (or down) in the supply chain, we all are affected by our capacity to understand, evaluate and perhaps integrate rapidly evolving technology.  Recent organizations publicizing their capital investment in evolving technology include the American Library Association, the Department of Defense, Texas Instrument, IBM, Eli-Lilly, Proctor and Gamble, Target and VeriSign.  No longer is the question “if?” but “when?” no longer “who?” but “how?”

Is your organization ready?  Will you be on the leading or bleeding edge?  Come to our next PDM on October 17 to hear Paul Reed’s timely and informative presentation.

Regards,

Scott Cornwell, CSCP, CFM
