A Sterling Celebration
The Philharmonic celebrates a special anniversary season with a benefit at Doral Arrowood in Rye Brook on Sunday, November
11th. Held at the site of the orchestra’s very first benefit, the evening will honor the final season for founding Music Director
and Conductor Paul Lustig Dunkel as well as the orchestra's achievements over the last quarter century.
“We’re planning a
sterling event for this landmark anniversary. We’re expecting performances by old friends of the orchestra, tributes to those who have
contributed to our success over the years, and of course, lots of fun,” remarked gala co-chair Mary Beth Buck.
Also hard at work
planning the benefit festivities are co-chairs Cris Ansnes, Judy Casten, and Donna O’Rourke. The benefit will include cocktails, dinner, and
performances by guest artists. Tickets start at $250 and can be purchased by calling 914-682-3707 ext. 10.

A Romantic Opening
On October 6th and 7th world-renowned pianist and Westchester native
Misha Dichter joins the Philharmonic for performances of Tchaikovsky’s first Piano Concerto. This beloved work gained fame in the 1950’s
when a young Van Cliburn performed it at the First International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia, winning the gold medal. It was considered a
“victory” over communist Russia and Cliburn was given a ticker-tape parade down 5th Avenue in New York – the only
professional musician to receive such an honor.
Also on the program is Maestro Dunkel’s own orchestration of Mozart’s variations to Ah!
Vous dirai-je, maman (you’re sure to recognize the melody as “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”.) Brahms’ revered and
final Symphony No. 4 will conclude the program.

Famous Flentrop Rolls Out
On November 3rd and 4th the Philharmonic rolls out the 21,000 pound Flentrop organ, originally
built for but never installed at Carnegie Hall. Now housed at the Performing Arts Center for almost 30 years, the Flentrop organ and its 3,721 pipes
will be featured prominently in Saint-Saëns’ Third Symphony (also known as the “Organ Symphony”). The Philharmonic last
performed this classical music staple in 1989, “so it is high time we showcase this work to Westchester audiences once again,”
exclaimed Maestro Dunkel.
Also on this all-French program is Chabrier’s homage to Spain,
España, and Suite No. 2 from Ravel’s post-impressionistic ballet, Daphnis et
Chloe.
