U.S. Congress Passes Wright Amendment Legislation
The U.S. Congress overwhelmingly adopted
legislation to repeal the Wright Amendment. Passing this legislation is a significant step forward in giving America the freedom
to fly. Once the bill is signed into law by the President, it will immediately allow through ticketing from Dallas Love Field
to cities throughout the United States by Southwest Airlines, will create more choices for low fares and will gradually eliminate all Wright
Amendment restrictions within eight years.
The Chamber has long held that the
repeal of the Wright Amendment for Tennessee would be good for Nashville, particularly for our business travelers and incoming tourists who are
forced to pay unusually high prices for flights to and from Dallas. The Chamber took a distinct position in our 2005 & 2006 Legislative Agendas
and even took a group to lobby Washington to urge for the complete repeal of the Wright Amendment. We would like to thank those who
campaigned to change this law. Congress heard our voice!
