When Manna Project International first got started back in 2004, Vanderbilt University was home to MPI's only student run campus chapter. Soon
after,
chapters were being formed at the University of Southern California and the University of Washington. By year three, we were thrilled to welcome
UNC-Wilmington and Worcester State
College to the team. Now, in our fourth year of Manna Project's life, we have 9 university chapters either established or in the making. At this
rate, we can happily predict approximately 8,192 active campus chapters in the next ten years!
But seriously folks, it is wonderful to belong to such a diverse and growing community. We are deeply thankful to have such an enthusiastic support
base extending from New England to Southern California and the many places in between. While each of our chapters is unique, they all have one thing
in common: a passion for serving others. This week, we'll take a look at some of the creative and exciting ways a few of our chapters have been
approaching
service work.
Vanderbilt University
In addition to planning Spring Break trips to Nicaragua, Ecuador, Haiti, and Costa Rica, MPI-Vandy is experimenting with a Thanksgiving break
service
trip to Nicaragua this Fall.
The chapter has also been spreading to the classroom! A team from Professor Cherrie Clark's marketing class has been
researching and consulting with our very grateful stateside crew. Also, this Spring, Professor Eakin will teach Family, Community and Social Justice
in Nicaragua, an Interdisciplinary
Studies
course offered in conjunction with a Summer course consisting of four weeks of work and study at MPI's
Nicaragua
site.
University of North Carolina Wilmington
Big things are taking place in Wilmington. Spring Break plans may include trips to both Nicaragua and Ecuador. Additionally, MPI-Wilmington will
partner with Braddigan of Love, Light, and
Melody to put on a campus-wide concert event of epic proportions.
Worcester State College
With inner city school improvement projects and a mentoring program with local elementary schools planned for the Spring, Woo-Manna is without a
doubt becoming a full-fledged campus organization. Several fundraisers are taking place this Fall and both the microfinance team and Alternative
Spring Break are planning trips to Nicaragua this year.
. . and More!
Read the last edition to see all the great stuff going on at Louisiana Tech. We're also excited to hear about chapters in the making at University of Texas, University of Iowa, and
Baylor University. And, Spring Break trips are being planned by students at USC, UGA, Pepperdine, and the University of Colorado at
Boulder.
