During the first week of March, MPI sponsored four spring break groups to three different
countries. Read what they drew from their experiences:
When the nine of us walked into Hogar Lubby, a state-funded home for kids with special needs located in Santiago, the only thing we saw was a
dirty room full of old, broken cribs, apathetic workers and thirty-five ignored kids. But after working [there]... we were able to see that under the
surface, Hogar Lubby really is full of hope. Though short, our time at Hogar Lubby truly embodies Mother Teresa's words:
'Every act of love is a work of peace no matter how small.'
- Allie Townshend, on MPI-Vandy's
recent trip to the Dominican Republic
I plan to educate as many people as possible on a local scale about the purpose of Manna Project. I see Manna as a means for changing the
world bit by bit. You don't have to be a visionary or a world traveler to be a Manna
member; you simply have to care. I hope that all members of our chapter will learn that change starts with them.
- Josh Eddings, President of MPI-Wilmington, whose spring break
group broke ground on the Augusts' new multi-use facility
As we entered the dump, we were witnessing one of the harshest realities of
humanity. Fires blazed,
some from spontaneous combustion, others to pack the trash down further. Livestock that would be later sold in the markets fed on the garbage.
Children and adults sifted through the trash... It seemed that there was no hope to be found here, until we made our way to a school and
feeding program created for the people living in La Chureca.
- Seth Harlan led Vandy's trip to Nica this year and
hopes to help start Manna's new site in Ecuador this fall
NEXT MONTH: Hear from the USC and Worcester trips to
Nicaragua.
