Help Make Affordable
Housing a Reality for Women and Girls in Miami-Dade.
Take
Action Today!

As
Miami struggles with a
severe housing crisis, millions of
dollars allocated to construct affordable housing
disappeared into the hands of developers, according to a
recent Miami Herald investigative series,
"House of Lies."
Approximately 40,000 people
are on a waiting list for subsidized housing in Miami-Dade,
a majority of whom are single mothers with children.
Access to affordable housing is a lifeline for many
women. Survivors of domestic violence in particular, find it
nearly
impossible to leave their abusers if they cannot find
affordable housing.
Many of you are
probably wondering what you can do to address Miami-Dade's
housing crisis.
On Friday,
members of Miami
Workers Center (a Women's Fund grantee partner), Low-Income Families Fighting Together (LIFFT),
and Power U Center for Social Change, as well as concerned
members of the public, expressed outrage at a Community
Speak Out at the Stephen P. Clarke Government Center in
downtown Miami.
Approximately 80
people from the Speak Out filed into the building and asked the
County Commissioners to commit to
hosting a public emergency meeting to discuss solutions. So far, only two
commissioners have agreed to an emergency
meeting: Barbara Jordan and Katy Sorenson.
Women's Fund supports this community call for an emergency public meeting
in order for Miami-Dade County to successfully deal with this
housing crisis.
As a Women's
Fund supporter, we urge you to take action today and contact
your County Commissioner.
