Style Bath & Kitchen

Spring time is in the air, and with spring comes the unofficial start of the trade show & fair season for the top kitchen & bath design companies. From the ISH show in Frankfurt Germany to the Kitchen & Bath Show in Las Vegas, manufacturers are rolling out their latest designs. This month's Style Trends takes a look at some of the new designs that you will begin seeing in the pages of shelter magazines soon.

City Living

The new City collection by Sonia is a smart grouping of fixtures & accessories designed with the modern bath in mind. The collection includes several smart storage pieces such as the rolling trolley, shown to the right, which has concealed casters as well as a cleverly seamed front door. The City caddy is made to fit nicely under a wall mounted sink making for a very efficient suite in a small bathroom. Included in the collection is a water resistant shower seat made from molded plywood which brings a really great level of design to a product which is typically quite institutional looking. The wood used in the construction of the City collection is UV protected against fading and is completely moisture resistant.

Spring Showers

LED's are beginning to pop up in more and more European bath & kitchen fixtures, such as the Aquazzurra by Fantini. The Aquazzurra is the latest fixture to integrate LED lighting technology into the shower. The shower column includes a full spa shower set with overhead rain head, body sprays, hand shower and thermo mixer. The Aquazzurra allows the user to control the LED lighting with a simple control that switches the light from blue to white to off.

The controls are intuitively laid out allowing the user to quickly switch on or off the sprays, hand shower, etc. The design is thoroughly sleek and luxuriously modern... Beautiful.

The Massaud Collection

With Clients such as Armani, Cassina, and B&B just to name a few French designer Jean-Marie Massaud is well on his way to becoming a household name in industrial design. His most recent project for Hansgrohe's design line Axor adds a bit more polish to his rising star. The Massaud collection evokes a modern and organic feel. The polished chrome bath faucet has the appearance of a seamless shape, integrating a beautifully simple horizontal plane that can act as a small shelf. Water temperature & volume are controlled by a simple lever that extends from the side of the faucet. The look is decidedly modern. It would be very much at home with the Zaha Hadid designed kitchen for Ernestomeda. Look for the Massaud collection to be available in the US later in 2007.
