We are pleased to welcome Dr. Mike Irving to the team at Kingston Road Animal Hospital. Dr. Irving brings over 30
years of medical and surgical experience to our practice. His special interests are painless laser surgery and it's wide applications in soft tissue,
orthopedic, & oral surgery.
Kingston Road Animal Hospital now offers on-site painless laser surgery to complement the
range of medical and surgical services already offered.
What are the Advantages of Painless Laser
Surgery?
Surgery Now Painless
The Laser seals nerve endings - reducing post-operative pain, and seals lymphatic tissue - reducing swelling, so healing is more comfortable.
Saves Time and Money
The Laser allows for some procedures to be done on an out-patient basis under local anesthesia. This eliminates:
- Scheduling an appointment for in-patient surgery.
- Fasting your pet from 10 pm the night before surgery.
- The need for general anesthesia and its inherent risks in some
patients.
No Bleeding
The Laser seals small blood vessels - eliminating bleeding.
Reduces Infections
The Laser sterilizes as it lases the tissue, and no instrument touches the tissue being
lased.
Less Scarring
The Laser only cuts the tissue directly exposed to it. It does not damage underlying or adjacent tissue. This allows for gentle
healing with little or no scarring.
What is Painless Laser Surgery Used For?
Elective Surgeries
Declawing cats is now painless. Surgery is also made painless for canine & feline spaying and
neutering.
Correction of Breathing Problems
Attention
English & French Bulldogs, Pugs, Shih-tzus & Boxers: We correct
stenosed nares (very narrow nasal passages that restrict
breathing) and elongated soft palates painlessly and quickly with
laser.
Corrective Eye Surgeries
Entropion (inverted eyelids that scrape against the eye), ectropion (everted eyelids that
expose sensitive eye tissue), dystichiasis (malpositioned eyelid hairs that can scrape the eye's surface), and cysts and tumours.
Out-Patient Warts and Cysts
Many of these are small enough to be removed with a local anesthetic - while you wait,
including sebaceous cysts, small lick granulomas, and squamous cell tumours. Geriatric patients that are a risk for a general anesthetic may have
other skin masses removed using local anesthesia and the laser.
Tumours and Other Growths
Many growths are too large, or located on the area of the body will require general
anesthesia
- including ear polyps, various eyelid tumours, skin masses, and oral gum and tongue tumours.
Periodontal Disease
Removal of diseased gum tissue.
