Happy New Year everyone!

Who can believe it’s 2006 already!  Wow! We have been in business for 5 years now.

Mary Tatum, another founder of Tomboy Tools, and I were just talking the other day about our progression over the last 5+ years.  It’s not only been an interesting journey; it’s been a challenging one as well.  In 2000, while attending the National Hardware Show to buy product for our line, we were laughed at by a few men who thought, “Why would women need tools?”.  When you hear comments like this, it’s only human nature to sometimes second-guess yourself.  ”Maybe, they are right, maybe this isn’t such a good idea”.  “Maybe we are the only women out there that love tools and love learning how to do new projects.”  Those doubts were short lived.  In 2002, a 6-minute segment on Tomboy Tools aired on NBC Nightly News with Tom Brokaw.  We were NOT alone!!  Thousands of women were just like we were.  They loved the idea and loved the fact that quality tools and education were going to be offered to them!  The most common response we heard was, “It’s about time”!   I feel that same sentiment when looking back on the last 5 years.  We took baby steps for several years, which was absolutely necessary to build the company with our limited resources.  But now… IT’S ABOUT TIME!!

We have positioned ourselves to make 2006 our breakthrough year!  We could not be more excited about the upcoming events, partnerships, and people who have joined our team, including all of our new consultants out in the field.

We understand that we need everyone’s support and effort to do this.  Each of you have a sister, daughter, mother, aunt, or grandmother who you can share this idea and give them the gift of empowerment.  Empowerment comes from the education and hands-on fun that we can provide in our tool parties.  Who would not appreciate being given that opportunity?  Our new slogan sums it up.

Women. Tools. Knowledge

Pass it On

Join us in 2006 to make a difference in someone’s life.  You might be surprised at the true impact of the gift you are giving.

Tomboy Tools Teams up with Leslie Segrete

We are excited to announce a strategic alliance with Leslie Segrete.  Leslie can currently be seen on TLC’s While You Were Out and can also be heard nationwide on The Money Pit Radio Show.

Tomboy Tools met Leslie during an event with Country Home Magazine in New York City.  Lucky for us, Leslie’s equipment did not make it to the show.  She used our Tomboy Tools to complete her upholstery segment and loved them.  She strongly believes in our company and wants to participate in our mission to empower women with hands on education. We are both very excited about the future and the potential for an ongoing relationship.

Leslie Segrete is a true renaissance woman through and through. Raised in a family where creativity was truly nurtured, she found her skills early.

Her mother taught her how to sew when Leslie was four years old and would assist her in making her Halloween costumes. By the time she was eight; Leslie was making and selling holiday crafts in front of her home when all of the other children had lemonade stands. Her parents got a real kick out of this and supported all of her dreams.

Her father, an interior architect for retail spaces, showed her that with hard work and dedication not only could creativity thrive, but that it could prosper. From then on Leslie decided that a career in the arts was the right fit for her.  Leslie proclaims:

“All it takes is the courage to try and not to be afraid to make mistakes”.

This holds true for all of the arts Leslie Segrete expresses herself in. She loves to sew, build, and create art in every medium including food. Trained as a Scenic Designer and a Professional Chef there is always something in the works in Leslie's mind and hands.

Please look for her how-to book titled “Fear Not; You Can Reupholster Anything” which will give you all the skills you need to upholster like the pros, coming out in Fall 2006 from Sterling Publishing.

Stay Tuned for further announcements regarding our alliance with Leslie.  We are working on several exciting events and will share the information as soon as possible.

Bathroom Tomboy Tools and LP Moulding partner to help you transform your home

Tomboy Tools and LP Moulding, a product produced by Louisiana-Pacific® Corporation, are teaming up to help you quickly and easily customize any room in your home.  If you’re looking for ways to add beauty to your home that only looks like you spent a fortune, then we’ve got solutions for you!  LP Moulding is happy to share in the success of Tomboy Tools and looks forward to being able to provide you a wider selection of decorative options and improvements for your home.

Do you want to make your living room more inviting?  Is your bedroom or bathroom boring?  Been thinking about turning your basement into a bonus room?  If so, you’ve come to the right place.  Installing moulding in your home can help breathe new life into any room. Available in eight beautiful collections, featuring modern looks and classic favorites, LP Moulding will help you showcase your creativity to fit your own personal style.

LP Prefinished Mouldings are polymer-based, resistant to cracking, splitting and warping. Moisture resistance makes these mouldings perfect for kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms, unlike wood, which can mold and rot due to high indoor humidity. An affordable alternative to wood, LP Moulding offers prefinished product lines designed to meet any of your moulding project needs.

Lightweight and ready to install upon purchase, our prefinished woodgrain mouldings come with the appearance of hand-finished wood, saving you time and money because it requires no sanding, painting or staining. From white oak color crown mouldings to rich dark baseboards, LP Moulding with woodgrain finishes are available in today’s most popular colors.

Don’t want the look of woodgrain in your room? That’s okay. Also ready to install is pre-finished Crystal White™ Moulding. Crystal White products look like painted wood, and can be installed as-is, or painted to match existing trim. LP Moulding cuts and installs like wood using standard woodworking tools.

Want to really make an entrance? LP Moulding offers Crystal White door trim kits that are a fast and easy way to improve any standard doorway. Door trim kits include pre-cut casing and corner blocks packaged together for a miterless installation.  Home improvement projects just can’t get any easier than this.

A complete listing of LP Moulding styles, design ideas, colors and other helpful information can be found online at http://www.lpmoulding.com/tomboy. You can purchase LP Moulding at any Lowe’s or Menards retail location.  A new look for your home is just a few simple steps away.
