NEWS FLASH

DATAMATX CONTINUES TO ADVOCATE TO KEEP BUSINESS POSTAGE RATES LOW

Recently announced postal rate increase will not affect pre-sorted and bulk mailings with the same impact thanks to successful negotiations with the USPS on behalf of business mailers.

The Postal Rate Commission announced this week the approval of a 5.4% postal rate increase.  This means the cost of a First-Class stamp will go up two cents, to 39 cents and the postcard rate will increase by one cent to 24 cents.  This is the first rate increase since June 30, 2002; and is one cent less than the last one.  This increase will take effect on January 8, 2006 and, while it may not make a significant impact on the budgets of the individual consumer or even many businesses, for companies that mail high volumes of bills and statements the financial impact is certain to be cause for concern.

As your document distribution partner, DATAMATX is serious about working to continually maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of your customer mailings. Because of this, our president Harry Stephens, is extremely active in the National Postal Policy Council (NPPC) and the Major Mailers Association (MMA) as an advocate for you. Both of these organizations work to ensure your voice is heard when postal decisions (such as this newly-announced increase) are made.  We are proud to report that discounts for business mailings have been continually negotiated with the USPS on your behalf by these concerned groups.

The result of these negotiations is that it has been agreed that pre-sorted and bulk mailings will not increase proportionately with First-Class mail. While First-Class mail will increase $.02, discounted high-volume automated 5-digit mail will only increase by $.015—which is extremely good news for high-volume mailers.
