Clinic coordinator pedals for teens
Most people go out to dinner on their birthday or blow out candles and eat cake, but for Lisa Scherber, activities coordinator for the Jimmy Fund Clinic, her special day last December was reason to sign up for the 192-mile ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown as part of the 27th annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge bike-a-thon held this past weekend.

Scientists isolate leukemia stem cells in a model of human leukemia
Researchers at Dana-Farber and Children's Hospital Boston and their colleagues have isolated rare cancer stem cells that cause leukemia in a mouse model of the human disease. The leukemia stem cells isolated proved to be surprisingly different from normal blood stem cells - a finding that may be good news for developing a drug that selectively targets them.

Moderate exercise improves survival rates for colon cancer survivors
People who have been treated for colon cancer can substantially reduce the risk that the disease will return and improve their overall chance of survival by engaging in regular exercise, according to new research by Dana-Farber scientists.

A recent National Institute of Medicine report estimates that 1.5 million Americans are harmed every year by medication mistakes. This National Public Radio report highlights Dana-Farber's computerized chemotherapy order entry system as one way that technology is being used to reduce errors.

Open to all adult patients and their families, this 30-minute session provides an overview of Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center (DF/BWCC), including how to find your way around, what supportive resources are available, and more.
