Sunitinib controls tumors and lengthens survival of
patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumor that is
resistant to Gleevec, study finds
In addition to confirming the safety and efficacy of sunitinib,
findings by Dana-Farber researchers illustrate that therapies
targeting several signaling pathways inside cancer cells may be
an effective treatment approach that may also be applicable to
other difficult-to-treat cancers, including kidney cancer.

Dana-Farber adds second PET/CT scanner, offering the
latest technology to more patients
The Nuclear Medicine Division at Dana-Farber has a new addition:
a second PET/CT scanner that allows more patients to be evaluated
for potential cancers and responses to treatment within a day,
reducing waiting lists and shortening visits.

Drug combination shows promise for treatment of
advanced neuroendocrine tumors
A combination of an oral chemotherapy agent and a drug to
prevent blood vessel growth has shown encouraging results in
advanced neuroendocrine tumors, rare cancers of hormone-making
cells that usually resist chemotherapy, researchers say.

New cellular flaw found in some virulent breast cancers
Researchers at Dana-Farber have identified a molecular
interaction that triggers a particularly aggressive form
of breast cancer, and suggest that attacking this target
with selective drugs might improve treatment.

Can dogs detect cancer?
They have a keen sense of smell, but can dogs sniff out cancer?
Researchers report in the March issue of Integrated Cancer Therapies
that they were able to train dogs to identify breath samples from
people with and without lung cancer or breast cancer. Dr. Hal
Burstein comments on the study on Fox News.
