The People of Illinois Tell Legislators: You Must Pass Illinois Covered for Us

SPRINGFIELD - On Thursday, May 17, the Campaign for Better Health Care (CBHC) unveils the "Our Fight" television ad campaign, calling
on
legislators to pass comprehensive health care reform this year. CBHC will be running the ads over five days in Springfield as a reminder to the
General Assembly that the heart of the Illinois Covered debate is about ensuring that all Illinois families and businesses have access to
affordable,
quality health care.
"It's more about us. It's not about the Governor. It's not about politicians," states Shuntai Sykes,
Communications Director of the Healthcare Consortium of Illinois.
"Everybody across Illinois understands that this is bigger than the Governor. Opponents of health care reform
can pretend that this is a political game that only matters in Springfield, but this is not a game for the millions of uninsured and underinsured in
our state and the hundreds of thousands of other Illinoisans that are on the brink of losing their insurance," explains Jim Duffett, Executive
Director of the Campaign for Better Health Care. "Real people across the state have been fighting for a sensible solution to the health care crisis
for years. And real people are involved in the effort to support Illinois Covered because this is our best opportunity to implement
comprehensive reform that will guarantee that quality health care is affordable for all Illinoisans."
Following the introduction of the "Our Fight" ad campaign in Springfield, CBHC is prepared to invest additional funds in targeted
Senate districts throughout the state where we feel the message will do the most good in terms of achieving this historic reform.
"We need our legislators to step up and take leadership in addressing the health care crisis this year in
Illinois. Every year, families and businesses continue to pay more for health care and get less in return. The people of Illinois can't
afford to wait any longer. We need the General Assembly to work with us to achieve meaningful reform this year," emphasizes Duffett.
Real Illinoisans who are participating in the ad campaign to pass comprehensive health care in Illinois are available for
comment.
