10th
The New York City Center for Charter School Excellence encourages charter school leaders,
board members and supporters to attend this year's 2007 New York Charter Schools Conference at the Roosevelt Hotel,
45 East 45th Street and Madison Avenue, in midtown Manhattan. The conference begins at 4:00 pm on Friday, November 9, and concludes at 2:45 pm
Saturday, November 10.

Instruction, Getting and Nurturing Great Teachers, Establishing Objective Performance Measures for your School and much more.

"Understanding the New Charter School Law - and Next Steps in Advocacy."
In addition to discussing key amendments to the New York State Education Law (Article 56) and
how they affect public charter schools, panelists will cover the 2008 Legislative Session and potential agenda items such equity, facilities
funding, and the political realities of moving an agenda forward. Parent advocacy and mobilization will also be explored so school leaders may
want to invite their parent coordinator or the Board Trustee responsible for community outreach to attend this panel.
A full conference agenda describing sessions, guest speakers and panelists
will be posted online this week by the New York Charter Schools Association. For more information go to www.NYCSA.org.

FMA – Borough Audit Workshop Audit trainings are coming to you! Fiscal Management Associates
(FMA) will lead an internal controls audit workshop in November for charter schools in their borough. The content of the workshops will be sharing
and learning fiscal practices from other charter schools, preparation for the State Comptroller's Audit, and understanding and responding to an
external auditor’s findings under SAS 112 provisions. The workshop will be in peer learning format, where you will share stories and practices
on handling SAS 112 letters, implementation of fiscal controls such as petty cash and inventory management. While the workshop will be facilitated by
FMA, the goal is for schools to learn from (and meet) each other. All participants are asked to bring copies of their current fiscal policies and
procedures. The Center will provide food and beverages.
The workshops will take place on November 6, 7, and 8 at a different borough each night (Bronx, Brooklyn, and
Manhattan). We need one school per borough to volunteer their space (a small classroom to hold about 10-20 people) for either the 6th, 7th, or 8th of
November. The time of the workshop (preferably in the evening) can be set by the school. If you are interested in volunteering your school to host a
workshop, please email Vinice Davis which
date you will host. More information regarding date and location will be sent to the Operations Listserv and featured in the next
Charter Leader News. To rsvp for a workshop, please email Vinice Davis by 10/26.
