Employers & Passive Job Candidates

Top jobs are not always listed.  Frequently, employers will opt for a selective candidate search by looking for passive candidates that are the best job match.

You may be wondering what exactly is a "passive candidate." Typically, it is someone who is open to changing jobs if the right opportunity surfaces.  Active candidates are deliberately looking for a new position.  We have all probably been active candidates at some point in our career.  The key is to begin seeking opportunities early so that you have adequate time to discover your best career move.

One VP of Human Resources recently said that their hospital receives thousands of applications a month for all types of positions.  The logistics of processing all these applications creates time lag in getting the application to the hiring supervisor.  More frequently than you might imagine, resumes and candidates never reach the appropriate hiring authority.

As our economy and healthcare industry continues to change,  opportunities will emerge for those who are prepared.  In assessing your current position, consider these questions:

  • What is your ideal work-life balance?
  • Where do you dream of living?
  • What type of community would you enjoy?
  • What is your commute (gas expense and time)?
  • What would be your ideal career path?
