DFPA Ehibitions and Performances 

The Chamber Music Class will be giving two open masterclasses. The Chamber Music Class will have half of the student ensembles perform on each masterclass, and receive instruction in a public forum. The Chamber Music Class would like to open this course up to all music/liberal arts students to attend and observe.
Performances are also open to the public.

The Ondas Ensemble with Chicago Latino composer Elbio Barilari      
Chicago Latino composer Elbio Barilari and the Ondas Ensemble will be featured at the Morse Theatre. Visit venue and listen to the Ondas Ensemble on music by Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos, Chicago Latino composers Elbio Barilari and Gustavo Leone among others. For information please vist the Morse Theatre's website.
$10, includes Continental breakfast.

Exposing Time

Michele Brody

Environmentally Based Artist

Free and Open to the Public. Michele Brody is Known for challenging the growth of native plants in such materials as lace fabric, hand made paper, plastic tubes and glass medicine bottles. The essence of Ms. Brody's work is to understand how we live with the constant flux of our environment. She wishes to plant within her audience the desire to be more aware of the tenuous relationship between ourselves and nature within the urban and industrial landscape.

Links Hall is celebrating the finale of their October Studies N Black programming.  This weekend Links Hall will be holding several events to finish their October programming.

 

Interdisciplinary Practices & Performative Expression Inside the Cultural Landscape

A communal forum on the intersection of art and social/political practices within the aesthetic of cultural notions of “blackness.” Interdisciplinary artists Theaster Gates, Monstah Black, and others share insight into their performative practices; local artists are also encouraged to bring/share their work and experiences. Facilitated by Baraka de Soleil, Curator of Studies N Black. Register online.

Still Black: A Portrait of Black Transmen, World Film Premiere
This film is an alternative feature-length documentary that explores the lives of six black transgender men living in the USA. The intimate stories of their lives as artists, students, husbands, fathers, lawyers, and teachers produce complex and multi-faceted images of race, sexuality, and identity. Directed by Chicago-based Kortney Ryan Ziegler, Produced by Chicago-based Awilda Rodriguez Lora. Discussion following event. More information online.

Luminous Blackness - Studies N Black Closing Event 
Honoring tricksters, shape shifters, and fun seekers, this performative experience invites the audience to witness the final installation of Links Hall  October programming, exhibited with images of D UNDERBELLY photographer Geoff Albores, cameo performances by Monstah Black and Chicago artists JSun Howard and Theaster Gates, an excerpt of documentary Still Black: A Portrait of Black Transmen, and haunting electronic tunes by DJ Daniel Givens. Audiences are encouraged to dress up as beguiling Halloween “black” or “supafly” characters. Reception included

Understanding the Other - Israeli and Palestinian Voices in Contemporary Film a film/discussion by Amy Kronish, Film Scholar 
Amy Kronish works as a consultant in the field of Jewish and Israeli film, curates film programs for Beit Avi Chai in Jerusalem and coexistence programs at the Jerusalem International YMCA.  Previously, she served for 15 years as the Curator of Jewish and Israeli Film at the Jerusalem Cinematheque (Israel's Film Center).  She lectures and writes widely on film and is the author of two books on Israeli film - "World Cinema: Israel" (1996) and "Israeli Film - A Reference Guide (2003).  Born and raised in the United States, Amy Kronish as an MA in Communications from NYU and has lived in Jerusalem since 1979.

The AIDS Foundation of Chicago is looking for volunteer art students to help with the desinging and making decorative ornaments. These ornaments would be used to decorate display trees and would be sold at The AIDS Foundation of Chicago's annual World of Chocolate holiday fundraiser on December 3rd. If you are interested in participating, please email Katie Cusack at the AIDS Foundation.


Auditions

The Marriott Theatre is seeking actors that can sing and dance, aged 18 and older, for their Theatre for Young Audiences production of Disney’s High School Musical. To auditions you should bring two contrasting 16 bar “pop” selections that shows off range, music in your key, movement clothes, and an updated headshot and resume.  To schedule an appointment please email or call Peter Sullivan 847-634-5926, Ext 4.

Art Sale

Calling all artists! Loyola’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts will be in the CFSU lobby selling easels, student paintings, and stage costumes liable to be used for Halloween purposes!  We will also be giving away lightly used theatre books. Student Organization will be setting up various tables that will cater to any questions or concerns that you might have. There will also be a Bake Sale Fundraiser!

Contests

Illustrator Contest 
The Junior League of Springfield is now taking submissions to determine the illustrator for their cookbook, Fit by the Forkful: Delisious and Nutrious Recipes for Kids, made by kids for kids that will be published nationwide. The cookbook follows the adventures of the main character, a child fork and members of his family. For more information please visit The Junior League's website.
