A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR
Dear Alumni,
We are so grateful to have an active and dedicated Grand Canyon University alumni community. Your unity was
surely expressed in the positive responses we received regarding the launching of our newsletter. Your voice is key to us understanding your needs
and views. We look forward to growing our connections with you, your family, and friends. We are in the midst of creating fun family BBQs, volunteer
days and other activities on campus to reunite you with your alma mater. It is your involvement and participation that strengthens the GCU
community.
Please keep sending us your thoughts, ideas and the happenings in your life. We enjoy hearing where
God has taken you since you were at GCU and we are eager to share your stories with fellow Alumni. Our university
will never reach its full potential unless our alumni are involved.
Blessings, Madeline LoConti Winney Director, Alumni Relations 602.639.6310 www.gcualumni.com

Memories from the Past
Thomas Ogilvie Jr., graduated from GCU in May of
’06 with his BS in Music Education. He is currently teaching band at Woodard Junior High School in Yuma, AZ. His fiance, Bethany Nordstrom,
graduated in May of '06 with BS in Elementary Education. Bethany is currently teaching in Morocco, and Thomas is considering the opportunity to move
to teach in the near future as well.
In September of 2007, he was blessed with recognition of being crowned the winner of Yuma Idol and received a one song
recording demo! He is a very talented individual and his music career is starting to flourish.
Thomas immensely enjoyed being on campus
at GCU and getting involved. His favorite memories from GCU were generated from performing in the plays, musicals, singing in the choir and band
concerts. In 2005 his involvement on campus was revealed when he had the honor of being crowned “Mr. GCU.” While Thomas was listing
many of his favorite memories, he included, “…and of course, GCU is where I met the love of my life.”
These are the wonderful memories that Alumni students will take with them for the duration of their life. We
would love to hear other GCU memories. If you have a story you would like to share, please write to mbeem@gcu.edu.

Canyon University (’57) and a Master’s degree from Arizona State University. He taught at Granada Elementary School for over 25 years.

after his mother passed in 1928. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from Cornell College of Iowa located in Mount Vernon. In

dessert land into productive farmland. For six decades he farmed in Buckeye, Rainbow Valley and Arlington, Arizona and many people feel that he is
synonymous with the cotton industry. Giving back to the community was very important to Charles and was portrayed through the donation of the Steven
