Extra Sprinkles, Please

Hungry? Some places of note if you are out of town, looking for a good place to eat:

Roscoe’s Chicken ‘n’ Waffles. The best pan-fried chicken in Southern California! Waffles are light and tasty…potato salad is delicious, so are the greens…and service is excellent. Sweet-potato pie for dessert. Lots of choices on the large menu. The place to go for wonderful southern-style cooking. Long Beach, Hollywood and Pasadena, CA.

Pizza Bianco. With a brick pizza oven brought over from his native Italy and reassembled in the restaurant, Chris Bianco produces what critics and thousands of patrons consider the best pizza in the U.S. It’s so good, that lines stretch down the block and waits of more than two hours are not uncommon. 623 Adams St., Phoenix, AZ.

Tadich’s. The oldest restaurant in San Francisco, Tadich’s opened in 1849 and continues to serve outstanding seafood and drinks to locals and tourists alike. The always-professional waiters are a bit gruff, but not rude—and are consummately attentive to your needs. Boudin’s sourdough bread is on every table, along with a big bowl of lemons. The quintessential San Francisco restaurant. No reservations! 240 California St., San Francisco, CA.

Huber's. Portland’s oldest restaurant serves complete roasted turkey dinner daily. Turkey and ham special with their traditional sage dressing can’t be beat. Bar is lively, and menu is large with many choices. 411 SW 3rd Ave, Portland, OR.

Gray Bros. The perfect cafeteria (with a takeout line all its own) serves Hoosier fried chicken daily, along with a large selection of other entrees, salads and soups. Great fried chicken! Desserts include a wide selection of homemade pies. Cafeteria, Mooresville, IN.

Duarte's Tavern. Opened in 1894 in Pescadero, a small town off Highway 1 about halfway between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz. Go east on Pescadero Creek Rd. about two miles from Highway 1 and look for the line out front! Excellent seafood, including crab cioppino, crab salad sandwiches, fresh Dungeness crab and a long list of fresh seafood entrees. Terrific! 202 Stage Rd. Pescadero, CA.
