NVEN Report: Voter Turnout Surges in Presidential Primaries

The Nonprofit Voter Engagement Network has published a preliminary report on voter participation in the 43 Democratic and 41 Republican primaries and caucuses as of April 1st, entitled America Goes to the Polls: A Report on Voter Turnout in the 2008 Presidential Primary. This 9-page summary, with accompanying color charts, shows voter participation reaching record levels in 2008 primaries and caucuses, particularly among young voters. An unprecedented one in four U.S. voters have already voted or attended a caucus. The report is available for download at nonprofitvote.org.

NVEN Celebrates Launch of NonprofitVOTE.org!

On April 1st NVEN debuted its new national website, NonprofitVOTE.org. Hosted in Washington, DC by the Aspen Institute's Nonprofit and Philanthropy program, partners attending or presenting included - Independent Sector, National Council of Nonprofit Associations, League of Women Voters, National Association of Community Health Clinics, Alliance for Justice, OMB Watch, NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Lawyers Committee, National Association of Secretaries of State, Sentencing Project, Demos and others. Nonprofits across the country that are making headlines and headway in activating their communities in 2008.

Community Health Vote Undertakes Civic Engagement Work at Health Centers

The National Association of Community Health Centers has teamed up with NVEN to launch the groundbreaking Community Health Vote program, an initiative to help health centers develop and implement local programs to engage their patients and their families. The goal of the campaign is to enhance the ability of health centers to initiate postive changes within the communities where they are located through civic engagement and advocacy, and to significantly increase voter registration and participation in the nearly 6,000 communities in which health centers are located. Nonprofit Congress' 2008 National Meeting: June 1-4 Washington

From June 1 - 4, 2008, over 800 nonprofit leaders will convene in Washington, D.C. for the Nonprofit Congress' 2008 National Meeting, an event designed to build on and celebrate the accomplishments of nonprofits across the country working for positive change for our sector and our communities. The meeting's agenda will include a Nonprofit Expo of new nonprofit products and services, networking sessions, educational sessions on a variety of advancement topics, and a Lobby Day. Every Child Matters Report Sends Messages on Children for 2008 Election

Every Child Matters is back in 2008 with a nationwide campaign to make children a priority in the 2008 elections. Their colorful, chart-filled new report, entitled "Homeland Insecurity: Why Children Must Be a Priority in the 2008 Presidential Campaign," reviews the big issues affecting American children and families. EverybodyVOTE Pennsylvania on April 22!

Pennsylvania's Primary Election Day is just around the corner, and local 501(c)(3)s such as Everybody Vote, the Disability Voting Coalition, and the Pennsylvania League of Women Voters are hard at work engaging and enlivening voters in their communities. Both the Pennsylvania LWV and the Committee of Seventy - a Philadelphia nonprofit that works to educate local citizens and safeguard elections - offer downloadable citizen's guides to the 2008 elections LWV's 2008 Primary Elections Voters Guide, Committee of Seventy's 2008 Citizen's Guide to Elections.
