Recognition
The Maryland Chapter of the American Fundraising
Professionals honored Alumni Council officer, Jim Wood ’61, at their National Philanthropy Day in Baltimore on November
5th. Jim received the association’s “Unsung Hero” award for his decades of service to St.
Mary’s College. Jim, past Council president and a former member of the SMCM Foundation, is also the recipient of the
college’s Order of the Ark and Dove, for public service, and an inductee into the Society of Distinguished Alumni. To quote
St. Mary's president, Maggie O’Brien, “Jim is the dream alumnus of every institution. He’s not only philanthropic;
he’s equally generous with his time and talents. If there’s an alumni event, you can count on Jim being there!”

5. A New Tradition is Born
Inspired by the dedicated alums and their Chili
Weekend in the November SMCMail, here is a photo of our first attempt at a reunion. Rather than waiting for a true ten-year reunion, we decided
to make an event of the fact that it has been 10 years since most of us met. This October, we spent a long weekend at Camp Merryeland in
St. Mary’s County. We visited campus on Saturday, but spent most of our time just chatting and catching up. It
was wonderful and we plan to do it again next year. Pictured are Meg Shea '01, Keating Eakins '01, Courtney Kimmel '01, Laurie
Menser '01, Sue Welsh Greene '01, Anne Sanner '02, Amanda Kellaher Walker '01, Cara Roviello Fama '01, Jackie Blaser Klekner '00, Jess Cleck '01 and
Elizabeth Clark '01. Not pictured: Ashley Irving '01
