2. A Sport for Nearly Every Fan – October 13th

A decathlon, not exactly, but this year's Homecoming does feature at least ten games: four varsity games and six, maybe seven, alumni meets. The October 13th activities kick off at 8:00a.m. with the annual Petruccelli 5K walk/run through Historic St. Mary’s City to benefit the Safe Ride Program. Varsity games follow, starting at 9:00a.m. with an all-day volleyball tournament, women's and men's soccer against Salisbury University (12:00 and 2:00 p.m., respectively), and field hockey against Washington and Lee at 4:00 p.m. Alumni match-ups include men's and women's basketball, tennis, men's lacrosse, field hockey, baseball, and swimming.  Come to compete or just be a fan. Visit the Alumni Hospitality Tent located by the varsity playing field between noon and 5:00 p.m. for some food, drinks, and socializing while the kids enjoy the inflatable moon bounce and giant slide. Click Homecoming/Parent Weekend  for the complete weekend schedule.  If you are planning to play or just come for the day, please e-mail Leslie Tucker in the Athletics Department at ljtucker@smcm.edu . Remember to include your name, class year and what sport you will be playing.

3. Capitol Hill Networking Happy Hour – October 18th

All alumni are invited to the October 18th Happy Hour from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Gordon Biersch Brewery and Restaurant located at 900 F Street NW, Washington, DC. If you are a 2007 graduate and did not receive your DVD, please check with the Alumni Office to see that we have your updated address. You can send updates to alumnioffice@smcm.edu

11. FREE ARC Memberships for Alums

We look forward to seeing more of our alums and their families in the ARC this year! Beginning September 1, 2007, the St. Mary’s College of Maryland Athletics and Recreation Center (ARC) will be extending free memberships to alums and household family members 18 years of age and older. Although membership will be free, a OneCard must be purchased at the business office for a one-time fee of $15.00. For more information, contact Shawne McCoy, assistant athletic director at smmccoy@smcm.edu  or Scott Devine, director of athletics and recreation at swdevine@smcm.edu.

12. Caller I.D. Says SMCM - Answer the Phone

Beginning September 16th, phones will be ringing, and St. Mary’s students will be asking for your Annual Fund support.  Your participation is critical!  The percentage of those who make an annual contribution to the College is one of the national standards used for assessing the institution’s vitality and the rankings in U.S. News & World Report.  The rankings, then, affect the College’s ability to secure grants from national foundations and corporations, to attract faculty and prospective students, and to build the endowment.

13. Featured Alumnae Presenting at Voices Series

Catherine Carter ’89 and Laura Resau ’96 will be presenting their work at SMCM  on September 28th. They are coming to campus as part of the Voices Series and will be holding a workshop and discussion about writing from 4-6p.m. in the Blackistone Room and end the evening with an author reading at 8:15p.m. in DPC.  Catherine is the author of the poetry collection Memory of Gills which was nominated for the Pulitzer and the National Book Award among other honors. Laura is the award-winning author of the critically acclaimed young adult novels Red Glass and What the Moon Saw.
