New OkEq Program: Monthly Health Screening Day
Thursday, November 15, 6-9pm
Each month, OkEq's
partnership with the Tulsa City-County Health Department will bring
health
screenings to the Equality Center. In November, nurse
practitioner Constance Brown-Phillips will offer free blood pressure
and
hemoglobin screenings.
Mark your calendars! In December, come check out your blood pressure and glucose. January's
screening will monitor cholesterol for a $10 fee.
Camp Fire Teens in Action

New Program: Oklahoma Deaf

program for deaf individuals. Oklahoma Deaf Spectrum will provide
programming for deaf LGBT and allied individuals and their
loved ones.

National Transgender Day of Remembrance: Panel, Vigil
and Art
Project
Tuesday, November 20,

Gender Outreach, a
program of Oklahomans for Equality, will commemorate the National
Transgender Day of Remembrance through a panel of personal stories and a candlelight vigil to memorialize those who were killed
due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The group will also debut a collaborative art project spotlighting their individual
journeys.

"Under the Rainbow: The Search GLBT Equality in Oklahoma"

OkEq and the Tulsa LGBT History Project are excited to announce "Under the Rainbow: The Search
GLBT Equality in
Oklahoma", a lecture by Dr. Christine Pappas, professor of political science at East Central University. Dr. Pappas's essay
about LGBT rights was featured in Alternative Oklahoma: Contrarian Views of the Sooner State, a 2007 collection edited by David Joyce, which
will be sold at the event to benefit OkEq!
Volunteer with the Gay & Lesbian Fund and PFLAG at the Route 66
Marathon
Sunday, November 18, 3200 S Riverside
Join the Gay & Lesbian Fund and PFLAG at their annual sponsored water stop for the
Route 66 Marathon, benefiting the Tulsa Area United Way. Thirty volunteers are needed to man tables and serve water and sports drinks for runners, in
shifts from 8:30 to 1:30. Volunteers are asked to register on the website and
select the Gay & Lesbian Fund Water Stop as the sponsoring organization. All volunteers will receive a commemorative jacket for participating! For

TCC Southeast Campus Student Government Association amends non-discrimination
policy
Congratulations to the students at TCC Southeast Campus for successfully adding sexual
orientation and gender preference protection to their by-laws!

Mayabb
On Saturday, November 3, 2007, Bonnie Mckenzie and Debra
Mayabb chose to become partners in life. The ceremony was presided
over by Minister Jann Ortiz at 2 p.m. at the Hearthstone Inn in
Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The couple was honored by the presence of
family and friends at both the ceremony and a private party to follow.
Bonnie was aided by Doni Jo Duff-Ledger, while Debby was aided by her
daughter, Cymbre Holmes.

Baremore
Tulsa Area Prime Timers founder George Baremore died
Tuesday, October 23, 2007. He was born October 15, 1920, in Wynona, OK,
the son of Herman G. and Clara Shook Baremore. He graduated from
Pawhuska High School in 1938, and studied at Oklahoma University in
Norman, OK, 1938 to 1941. He served in the army in World War II and was
a Past Commander of Rollie McCartney Post 97 of the American Legion. He
was a postal clerk, later Assistant Postmaster, at the Pawhuska Post
Office 1941 to 1973, with time out for army service. After early
retirement at the Post office, he moved to Tulsa, OK, where he was
associated with Metropolitan Insurance Company until his retirement in
1983. He loved to travel; he had visited all 50 states and made several
trips to Europe, Africa, South America, and Asia. He was a long-time
member of the First Christian Church in Pawhuska, where he served as a
deacon and trustee, and was also Church Treasurer for 28 years. At the
time of his death he was a member in Tulsa of the Parish Church of St.
Jerome. Memorial gifts may be made to the Parish
Church of St Jerome in Tulsa, or to the First Christian Church in
Pawhuska.
