Icons: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol 2
November 9 and 10, 8pm, Nightingale Theatre, 1416 East 4th Street
Conquest. Religion. Sacrifice. Sweat. Politics. Fate. ICONS: The Lesbian and Gay History of the World, Vol. 2 debuted at the Columbus National Gay and Lesbian Theatre Festival in 2004, winning the Audience Favorite Award in Solo Performance. Jade Esteban Estrada portrays gay icons ranging from Alexander the Great to Harvey Milk.

 

Formally choreographer to Latin diva Charo and a scratch vocalist to the Back Street Boys, Estrada is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy and has been called "the first gay Latin star" by The Advocate. He has lectured and performed at numerous universities around the U.S. on Latin culture and LGBT history. For ticket information visit Nightingale's website. Speaker Panel at Circle Cinema's For the Bible Tells Me So

Oklahomans for Equality is partnering with the non-profit Circle Cinema to present For the Bible Tells Me So, a documentary about the tension between homosexuality and Biblical scripture. Check out the review in the Urban Tulsa this week!

 

OkEq will host a panel discussion on Sunday, November 11 after the 2pm show. Featuring Jeremy Elliot of All Souls Unitarian Church, Toby Jenkins of OkEq and Ekklesia, and Linda Ford of Phillips Theological Seminary, the panel will take place between screenings, at 3:40. Come hear their stories before or after the film!

Volunteer with the Gay & Lesbian Fund and PFLAG at the Route 66 Marathon

Sunday, November 18, 3200 S Riverside

Join the Gay & Lesbian Fund and PFLAG at their annual sponsored water stop for the Route 66 Marathon, benefiting the Tulsa Area United Way. Thirty volunteers are needed to man tables and serve water and sports drinks for runners, in shifts from 8:30 to 1:30. Volunteers are asked to register on the website and select the Gay & Lesbian Fund Water Stop as the sponsoring organization. All volunteers will receive a commemorative jacket for participating! Medicare Part D seminar and enrollment clinics sponsored by LIFE Senior Services

Are you confused about Medicare Part D and not sure which drug plan is the right plan for you? OkEq is excited to partner with LIFE Senior Services to provide an informational seminar and enrollment clinic to individuals eligible for Medicare Part D.

 

The Medicare Part D enrollment period for 2008 is November 15-December 31, 2007. This is the time to enroll in Part D or make changes to your existing coverage. Sign up for your free, personalized counseling session at the Enrollment Clinic offered by LIFE Senior Services in December. To enroll, call LIFE at 664-9000 x452.

 

New Program: Oklahoma Deaf Spectrum

In keeping with our mission of equality for all LGBT people, OkEq is excited to announce a new program for deaf individuals. Oklahoma Deaf Spectrum will provide programming for hearing impaired LGBT and allied individuals and their loved ones. For more information, contact Ethan at deaf@okeq.org.
