New on BrainPOP: FYI

Check It Out!

We're proud to introduce our new FYI feature, accessible from the topic pages underneath our movies. The FYI feature contains additional information about our topics, in a format designed to promote reading comprehension. Each begins with a new Cassie & Rita cartoon, then lets users navigate relevant category buttons like topic-related careers; graphs and statistics; historical details; trivia; and more. See an example of our FYIs here!

The FYI feature has many applications. A few tips:

Use the FYI for a class read-aloud.

Have students create their own version of an FYI.

♦ After watching a BrainPOP movie, extend comprehension by encouraging the class to explore some of the FYIs independently.

Print out the FYI for students to share with their families at home.

Got an FYI Tip? We'd love to hear and share your ideas. Email us!

BrainPOP at NECC

Highlights from San Antonio

Thank you to everyone who stopped by Booth 8074 at NECC - we loved meeting you and hearing what you had to say about BrainPOP! We'd like to convey our deepest appreciation to the four educators who joined us at the conference: Patrice Dawkins-Jackson and Lorraine Prince (Dunwoody Springs Charter School in Atlanta, GA); Robert Miller (Port Orange Elementary School in Port Orange, FL); and Scott Walker (who teaches Arts & Humanities in Kentucky and blogs at TeacherTech). With incredible enthusiasm, unwavering effort, and great humor, they led demos in our booth throughout the day, presented on our behalf at our special events and our partner Promethean's booth, and helped answer whatever questions you had. Patrice, Lorraine, Robert, and Scott: thank you!

Special Events
BrainPOP hosted three dynamic workshops at the nearby Marriott Rivercenter. Our staff and BrainPOP educators ran sessions about integrating technology into science lessons and labs; the tremendous impact BrainPOP and interactive whiteboards can have on science lessons; and the difference BrainPOP Jr. makes in K-3 classrooms. At the Microsoft booth, a presentation on Project K-Nect - an innovative initiative that uses Smartphones to support 9th-grade students in rural North Carolina - touted BrainPOP as the pilot program's most popular resource. And in his presentation on English Language instruction, technology consultant Arturo Guajardo, a facilitator for Austin ISD, recommended BrainPOP as an excellent tool for teaching English to non-native speakers.

The Winners Are ...
Congratulations to the winners of our "spotter" campaign! Debbie Turner (Mobile, AL); Joy Hatchett (Red Rock, OK); Sara Pennartz (Lewisville, TX); Michelle Jaekel (Arlington, VA); Linda Downs (Floresville, TX); and Margaret Frick (Arlington, VA) will all receive School Combo subscriptions. These lucky NECC attendees picked up BrainPOP t-shirts, wore them during the conference, and were then "spotted" by members of the BrainPOP team. At the Promethean booth, Tanya Richard (New Orleans, LA) won a Premium School subscription in Promethean's NECC game show.

See You Soon
Our busy conference schedule picks up again this fall. Visit us on the road, and as always, let us know if you're interested in presenting for us at an upcoming conference.
