   Thank You to the 5th Annual Tasting Stars

 

Over $16,000 was raised for Y-ME Illinois on February 17^th at the 5^th Annual Tasting Stars! Charles Stanfield, founder and chairman of Wine for the People, presented a tasting of a selection of champagnes. An expert in sparkling wines and champagnes, Charles has attained the rank of Chevalier in the prestigious L'Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne.  In addition, helping Tasting Stars become an extremely beneficial fundraiser for Y-ME Illinois! 

 

Special thanks to Charles for his time, energy and enthusiasm for the cause. Y-ME Illinois would also like to thank the gracious hosts of the 2007 Tasting Stars for their dedication through helping our organization raise funds to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone.

  Volunteer with Y-ME Illinois at the LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle

Y-ME Illinois has been named an official charity of the LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle! As part of this exciting partnership, Y-ME Illinois is given the opportunity to help with the collection of runner chips at the Finish Line from 9:00am - 11:30am on Sunday, March 25th. Volunteers receive a free tee-shirt and the opportunity to see family and friends finish the race from an exciting vantage point.

  An Update from the Y-ME Illinois Springfield Office

 

With just three months to go, the Springfield Walk Planning Committee is making major strides with preparations for the Inaugural Y-ME Walk on Sunday, June 3^rd, 2007.  This inspiring event will take place at the Lost Bridge Trail in Springfield with an anticipated 500 Walkers!  Jim Leach, 970 AM WMAY morning show host, will emcee the event.  Food, prizes, and music will add to the fun and excitement of this special day.  So take steps with us and show your support for Y-ME Illinois and solidarity behind the breast cancer cause! 

 

On March 9^th you can take advantage of on-line registration at www.active.com. When you register on-line a personal fundraising page will automatically be created!  It is our hope that walkers will take big steps and raise critical dollars to support Y-ME's mission to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone.  For more information about participating or forming a Walk Team please call (217) 545-7424.

Pink Streak is the Y-ME Illinois LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon team, but Pink Streak is more than a team, it's a movement, a movement in the fight against breast cancer that is expanding and growing in 2007!

As a way to encourage ongoing learning and bring together the Y-ME Illinois community, Y-ME Illinois is introducing a Quarterly Book Club!  Our first book will be "Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy" by Geralyn Lucas.  This memoir of a young breast cancer patient discusses every part of the breast cancer experience, from surgery to chemotherapy to intimacy.  Lucas's book is unique because it manages to leave the reader with an optimistic sense of empowerment.

Join Y-ME Illinois at the 2007 National Breast Cancer Coalition Conference

 

When:  April 28 through May 1st

 

Where:  Hyatt Regency Crystal City, Arlington, VA

 

Why attend:   Y-ME Illinois members attend the conference each year to meet their respective legislators to advocate on breast cancer issues and learn about cutting edge medical and research issues from top medical doctors and researchers in the field.  

 

Cost:   Registration cost: $115 now; $130 after April 16th (+$35 annual NBCC membership fee)

 

Room rates: $189 single or double at Hyatt Regency Crystal City

 

Partial scholarships are available from NBCC and Y-ME Illinois to cover some costs.  NBCC scholarship application due: March 12, 2007 pm 5 pm EST.

NBCC scholarship covers a maximum of 3 hotel nights and/or conference registration. Scholarships are competitive and based on need.
