The Y-ME Illinois Associate Board was established to help the Y-ME Illinois Affiliate engage a diverse group of volunteers and help meet the needs of the local affiliate.  Associate Board members volunteer their time and talent to increase awareness of Y-ME Illinois and the breast cancer cause throughout the Chicagoland area.  These young women and men also participate in service projects that directly impact patients and raise funds to support the free programs & services offered by Y-ME Illinois.

Additionally, the Associate Board provides an opportunity for members to network, build rewarding relationships, and develop leadership skills.

We deeply thank the Executive Committee for stepping forward and agreeing to put forth their time and effort!  We are very excited for the future of this group and their young, dedicated and passionate members.

Meet our Outreach Staff

Y-ME Illinois is pleased to welcome two additions to our staff: Patient Services Outreach Coordinator Sheila Rogers and Bilingual Outreach Coordinator Candice Ibaceta. Both Sheila and Candice have made great strides with community outreach by providing our programs and services to those who need it most.

Sheila Rogers is Outreach Coordinator for the African American Community where her focus is to bring breast health awareness programs and services to under-served  African American communities in the Chicagoland area.  Sheila develops relationships with community based organizations, elected officials and other non profits to introduce Y-ME Illinois' programs and services.  She conducts breast health awareness workshops and brings the Day For You and Mobile Mammogram Van programs to various communities.  Prior to joining the staff in September 2006, Sheila volunteered with Y-ME Illinois for two years.

Sheila has extensive experience working with under-served women.  She was the Program Director for the Chicago office of Women in Community Service (WICS), a national organization dedicated to assisting low-income women, families and youth obtain economic self-sufficiency.  As Program Director, she led a staff of four in providing comprehensive case management and supportive services to women transitioning from Cook County Jail back into their communities.

Sheila's prior position was Program Manager for the Women Employed Keys To Success Pre-Employment Program, which assisted low-income, women re-enter the workforce.  The program included workshops and seminars that built self-confidence, taught job-hunting skills and helped women recognize and develop their marketable skills.  Sheila was responsible for recruitment, community outreach, program delivery and curriculum design.

Candice Natalie Ibaceta graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She majored in Political Science and in Latin American/Latino Studies. Candice has always been involved in the Latino community. She has tutored children and adults with their English and has volunteered her time in various political activities.  Throughout her college career, Candice served as a teacher in the Latino Community.  She was a Citizenship/ESL Instructor, where she helped residents pass their citizenship interview and thereby become Citizens of the United States.  Having had a family history of breast cancer and also having noticed that the Latino community lacks information about breast cancer, Candice has decided to enter a new career
phase. Candice is now Y-ME's Bilingual outreach Coordinator.

Outside of work, Candice still tutors students by helping them pass their citizenship interviews.  She has also started a block club, where they will be focusing on violence prevention. Candice likes playing tennis and tries to play as much as possible  She has a passion for folk music and enjoys going to plays in the community.  Her favorite way to relax is by watching Chilean TV and watching old re-runs of Seinfeld.  Candice loves traveling and can't wait to go back to Chile to visit her family.

Welcome, Sheila and Candice!  We are so pleased to have you on our staff.
