Y-ME Illinois is pleased to welcome three new Program
Coordinators to our Chicago office! Meet Rowena
Green, Izabella Redlinski and Judy Guitelman. |
Meet Our New Program Coordinators!
Rowena Green, African American Community
My name
is Rowena Green and I have been working in the African American community for over twenty years. I completed my undergraduate degree at Chicago State
University in African American Studies. After earning my Bachelors degree I was accepted in Northern Illinois University Master's degree program
in Inner City Studies. I was then hired by The Renaissance Collaborative Inc., a non-for-profit which provides housing for a formally homeless
population by way of Americrops, as a Coordinator of a match savings program.
I moved to Jamaica where I worked for Nanny's House, which was
a non-for-profit were we taught students who didn't have the resources to go to school. While living in Jamaica, I found out that my sister had colon
cancer, so I moved back home to Chicago to support my sister Sharrone as she battle cancer and got a job with an Online University. Sharrone died May
28, 2007. I am please to have an opportunity to help other women become educated about their health and excited to work for Y-ME
Illinois as an African American Coordinator. Helping Y-ME Illinois complete their mission is my goal.
You can e-mail Rowena at rgreen@y-me.org.
Izabella Redlinski, Polish Community
My name is Izabella Redlinski and I am proud to be the first Y-ME Program Coordinator for the Polish American community in
Illinois, which amounts to almost a million people.
Since moving to Chicago from Poland in 1996, I have been involved in various Polish-American organizations, which opened my eyes to the need of
breast cancer awareness. As prevention, in the past, was not practiced among the women in Poland, I hope to educate them and their families,
especially that the risk increases threefold after they cross the Atlantic.
My background in science (I have a degree in Integrative Biology from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) as well as experience in grass
root work will hopefully contribute greatly to this cause. I look forward to working with all the wonderful staff and serving the community!
You can e-mail Izabella at iredlinski@y-me.org.
Judy Guitelman, Latino Community
Judy is a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has a Masters Degree in Speech and Language Pathology from the
University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Judy immigrated to the United States 20 years ago and, in 2006, completed her certification to be
qualified as a Medical Interpreter.
In 2007, Judy completed the courses necessary to earn an ESL-Bi-lingual Education Certification from National Louis
University. She is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Judy is proud to be a breast cancer survivor since 2005.
You can e-mail Judy at jguitelman@y-me.org

The News From Springfield
The Governor Expands The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program
With cancer survivors, advocates, and even with our very own Jude Andrews of
Y-ME Illinois by his side, Governor Blagojevich announced last week that he is expanding the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (IBCCP) to
cover all uninsured women within the age group served, removing the previous income requirement that excluded many women who could not afford
services. The program will now provide over 260,000 women with life-saving breast and cervical cancer screenings, and make available treatment
services if women are diagnosed with cancer. Executive Director Jude Andrews traveled with the Governor and other breast cancer
advocates around Illinois last Thursday to help kick-off the expansion. “This program will help relieve worry from women
who don’t receive regular mammograms for fear of cost,” said Jude. “Now all women in Illinois can take care of themselves with
greater freedom and ease.” Illinois is leading the way as the first state in the nation to make breast and cervical cancer
treatment available to all women.
The expansion will cover:
- Free breast cancer screenings (clinical breast
exams and mammograms) for all uninsured women between the ages of 40 and 64, regardless of income
- Free cervical cancer screenings (Pap tests,
pelvic exams) for all uninsured women between the ages of 35-64, regardless of income
- Free screenings for younger women with
symptoms on a case by case basis
To enroll in the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer
Program, call the Women’s Health Line at 1-888-522-1282 to find the lead agency closest to
you.
