Second Annual Streak Chicago
Pink:
Let’s Paint Wrigleyville Pink!
While the Cubs are away on Friday, September
14, Y-ME Illinois will shift Chicago’s focus to breast cancer awareness and transform Wrigleyville from a sea of blue and red to pink! Y-ME
Illinois is host to the second annual Streak Chicago Pink event, which will be held at Vines on Clark to honor and celebrate the success of our Pink
Streak marathon team runners. The Pink Streak team is raising money for Y-ME Illinois, while training for The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon, which
takes place on October 7, 2007.
The Pink Streak team experienced success in 2006 raising $151,000 and
has nearly doubled in size this year to 141 team members. Pink Streak is one of the largest fundraising initiatives for Y-ME Illinois. This year, the
team has already raised $61,000, and they are still going strong!
We plan to draw a big crowd of Pink Streak runners and supporters to
the event, as well as local Chicagoans looking to have a good time. With an open bar of beer and wine and a pink chocolate fondue fountain, the
guests are expected to dance the night away from 7:00 to 11:00 pm. Other highlights include appetizers, a DJ, a special runners’ slideshow and
a silent auction.
The Y-ME Illinois Associate Board established this event last year
because we wanted to show Pink Streak runners what an important role they play in Y-ME Illinois’ continued success in the local community.
This year, the event will honor one special Pink Streak Team Member with the Extra Mile award, a first-time award given to a runner who demonstrates
spirit, grace and persistence in life, in fundraising for Y-ME Illinois and in training for the Chicago Marathon.
Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door and FREE for Pink Streak
Runners. For more information and to purchase tickets,CLICK HERE or log on to www.y-me.org/illinois.
The mission of the Y-ME Illinois Associate Board is to impact the fight against
breast cancer through volunteering, increasing awareness and raising funds to support the programs and services of the Illinois Affiliate of Y-ME.
If you are interested in learning more about the Associate Board, please contact Natalie Long at nslong1@yahoo.com.

Y-ME Illinois is pleased to welcome our new Program Manager, Lynette Kos! You can
reach Lynette at lkos@y-me.org or at (312) 364-9071 x 17. |
Y-ME Illinois Welcomes Lynette Kos!
I have worked in the mental health field my entire career and I am so excited to
join Y-ME Illinois as the Program Manager to assist breast cancer survivors. I began my career working with individuals who were struggling with
substance dependence. I have worked with all age ranges, from teens to the elderly. In 1989, I became a Licensed Psychologist in the State of
Minnesota and my career path extended into all areas of mental health. I learned that listening, patience and compassion were all some people needed;
something that I bring to my work with breast cancer survivors.
I have worked extensively developing and building programs. I believe that the
services and programs provided to the underserved and at-risk are vital to maintaining a “giving” society. One of these services is
support groups that care about one another and offer encouragement. I have also worked extensively with teens, listening to their concerns and
offering guidance and support.
Education is a big component in my life. I have a Master’s Degree in
Psychology and Counseling, but more importantly my mother was a teacher for over 30 years. She taught me in a rural school in North Dakota from third
grade through eighth grade. Her dedication and compassion guide me to this day. I will always be grateful to her, even though she pulled my ear on
more than one occasion when I misbehaved.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments. My email address
is lkos@y-me.org and my phone number is (312) 364-9071 ext. 17.
Y-ME Illinois Seeks Breast Cancer
Survivors To Lead Local Teen Workshops
Attention breast cancer survivors: you can make a difference, as a
Just for Teens Program presenter! Y-ME Illinois offers a breast health awareness program for high school senior girls
called “Just for Teens.” For the school year 2006-07, the program was presented in 54 high schools to over
5,800 senior girls. To fill all the requests we have received from local high schools, Y-ME Illinois needs additional volunteers—particularly
in the western and southern suburbs of Chicago. Y-ME Illinois is looking for survivors who want
to share their experience and teach young women about the importance of early detection. Ideal volunteers are at least one year out of treatment. All
training and materials are provided.
Y-ME Illinois is also interested in expanding the program! If you work at a
school that may be interested in hosting the program, please contact us for more information. Our goal is to reach every senior
high school girl in Illinois who wants to learn about breast health.
Those
interested in volunteering or who would like more information about the Just for Teens workshop should call Lynette Kos at
lkos@y-me.org or (312) 364-9071 or visit our website.
