Greetings Tyranenaeans!

IT'S TOO QUIET....

Stacey here. This morning, I arrived at the brewery early (yes, I was here EARLY) and I already had a message in my inbox from Rob. And I quote, "Don't even ask. I don't have time to write the newsletter again today." Love, Rob. So... that's why you get me again today! :)

See, Benji is out this week recovering from a minor, though painful, surgical procedure (see below), and Rob is on his own, perhaps even until next week sometime. (Benji broke that bad news to me in an email yesterday; we had originally thought he would be back to work tomorrow on light duty.... now it's entirely possible that he will not even return until next Tuesday.... IF his doctor releases him back to work!)

Anyway, if Rob wasn't crabby enough from having to brew, clean, filter and bottle on his own, then lightning struck twice in the same place.... the bottling line took a big, steaming poo at about 8:55 am.... (We start bottling at 9...)

So, as I type, three of our trusty bottlers are shuffling aimlessly toward the back door, seeing as Rob just sent them home, and there is definitely NO continous hum from the bottling line filling up my office.... It's pretty darn quiet around here.... except for the occassional clanking of tools against the concrete in back....

Last Call for Brunch at the Brewery! I've gotten some RSVPs in for May 4... but I have to get back to the caterers ASAP. So if you want to put your name in for brunch you better do it now! Check below for more details.

Auction for COVETED BGW! Beer. Mike Roberts, the owner of Legacy Chocolates of Menomonie, WI, and St. Paul, MN, (www.legacychocolates) has been kind enough to not only collect our Brewers Gone Wild! beers but to also offer up six of his precious 4-packs of previously-released (and highly coveted) Brewers Gone Wild! beers for auction to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. All of these beers have been refrigerated and kept in ideal conditions since having been bottled.

The beer collection up for auction includes one 4-pack of each of the following:

  • Who's Your Daddy? Imperial Porter Aged in Bourbon Barrels (The very first beer of this series - Released March 2006)
  • Spank Me Baby! Barley Wine-Style Ale (Released December 2006)
  • High Class Broad Imperial Brown Ale Aged in Brandy Barrels (Released March 2007)
  • Stickin' It To the Man Extra IPA (Released April 2007)
  • Hop Whore Imperial IPA (Released August 2007
  • Dirty Old Man Imperial Rye Porter Aged in Rye Whiskey Barrels (which is no longer on tap at the brewery - Released February 2008).

The opening bid for all six 4-packs will start at $50.00. Submit your bid by email. What are you willing to pay for these impossible-to-find beers? You can check our BGW! page in the evening to see what the highest bid is for that day. Bids will be excepted via email only through Tuesday, April 29th. We will list the winner in our weekly newsletter on Wednesday, April 30.

Again, the money will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as part of Jessie's Rock N'
Roll Marathon fundraising. (Our Beer Ambassador's race is coming up on June 1st in San Diego). Please remember that your donation is tax deductible and goes towards researching a cure for Leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers. Jessie is taking on the physical challenge (running 26.2 miles)... if you'd like to take a stab at the opportunity to be the proud owner of these glorious beers
then open up your pocket book and put in your bid today!

STIPULATIONS: Items may only be purchased by someone of legal drinking age in Wisconsin (21+) who ALSO resides within Tyranena's delivery territory (unless you are willing to drive here, yourself, to pick up your winnings.... we WILL NOT ship the beer). The winner may ONLY pick up the beer from Tyranena Brewing Company in Lake Mills, (where they will be carded) or arrange for hand delivery with Tyranena's Beer Ambassador, Jessie, at which time PROOF OF AGE will also be required.

Guest Brewer at Tyranena. Last week we had a female, guest brewer at Tyranena. I didn't see much of her, just a bit during lunch, as the boys kept her quite busy back in brewery. Ashley "won" a day of brewing with Rob and Benji as part of a little sweepstakes that the Old Fashioned (on the Square in Madison) held for its bartenders. Whomever sold the most Tyranena beer while we were beer of the month, won the prize! And, actually, the prize was supposed to be a night in Lake Mills, with accomodations at a local bed and breakfast inn, but Ashley said she'd rather see what it was like to really brew beer at the brewery.... I think someone dropped that girl on her head when she was a child.... Regardless, next time you are in Madison at Old Fashioned, make sure to have a Tyranena and say hi to Ashley for us!

Benji's Hernias. Brewer Benji had two hernias. Nope, there's no punchline. Poor guy was in some real pain, so last Friday they cut him up and, hopefully, fixed the problem. Benji seems to be doing better this week; he even came into the brewery today to pet the dogs and chat with Rob. I think he must be REALLY bored at home....

If you'd like to send him your well-wishes, I know he is checking his email between viewings of Finding Nemo and the latest Harry Potter flick. But never fear, Benji WILL be at the brewery to strain through a tour this Saturday at 3:30 pm so everyone feel free to come down and wish him a quick recovery with a pat on the back.... but no pats to the abdomen....

Have no idea what he's dealing with? Well, check it out on WebMD.com.... inguinal hernia.

Brewing: Rob is scheduled to brew a double batch of Rocky's on Friday (though that may change now that they didn't bottle today....) and a single batch of IPA on Saturday and another on Sunday.

Bottling: Bob, Teri, Danella and Rob bottled 257 cases of Stone Tepee Pale Ale on Monday. They were going to bottle about 250 cases of Chief BlackHawk Porter this morning, but, well that just ain't happening. Hopefully they'll find time to bottle it some other day this week. Regardless, we have 2 cases of Pale mislabels that will be for sale in the Tasting Room at 4:30 pm. First-come, first-serve... I can't save it for anyone in particular, so please don't call and ask!!!!!

Wednesday is Pitcher Night! That means $7.00 pitchers, Gardetto's snack mix, and occassionally sweaty volleyball players. And tonight, Mindy will be here to serve you.... amongst a bunch of jewel-crazed women (Mindy's having a Lia Sophia Jewelry Party in the lobby as well).

Thursday is Thirsty Thursdays. Thirsty Thirsdays is your opportunity to earn a beer on us. Each time you join us in the Tasting Room on a Thursday night you'll receive one stamp for each tap beer you purchase on your Thirsty Thursday card. Buy yourself a well deserved beer, earn a stamp. Buy someone else a beer, earn another stamp. When the card is full, turn it in for a free pint and be entered in quarterly prize drawing! The drawings will be held at Hopluck Dinners. Participants need not be present to win.

Saturday is Live Music: Jim James & the Damn Shames. "The local trio Jim James & The Damn Shames pick around country music more than they actually play it. Which is a good thing. Young bands that offer up pro forma versions of old country styles are a dime a dozen these days, and their retro-mindedness gets dull awfully fast. Instead of straight twangin', JJDS (which, naturally, includes no one named Jim James) hustle and bustle around a wide swath of trad roots music, sometimes tumbling through swing tunes, sometimes dusting up on the country blues." - Tom Lakin, The Isthmus

Jim James & the Damn Shames - Roots Rock - 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Future musical performances can be found at: www.tyranena.com/events/musicschedule.htm.

Sunday is... the Last Day of the Weekend! It's the most horrible time of the year, the long, cold winter months without football! Coming down to the brewery may be your only opportunity to avoid depression during these long dreary Sundays. Join us between 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for some camaraderie and good cheer!
