TREETOPS RESORT FEATURED
AMONG GOLFWEEKS
TOP 100 RESORT COURSES
Popular resort places
two courses on the list
TREETOPS VILLAGE, Mich. (Jan 4, 2006) Golfweek magazine, one of the
countrys leading golf publications, has ranked two courses from
Treetops Resort among its Top 100 Resort Courses in America. The Rick
Smith Signature was No. 37 on the list and the Tom Fazio Premier was
No. 59.
Golfweek uses a nationwide panel of golf course raters to experience
and evaluate the top courses in the country. They rate courses in a
number of categories including routing, natural setting, green
contours, memorability of par 3s, 4s, and 5s, conditioning,
landscape and the walk in the park test.
Rick Smith, the resorts owner and managing partner, used his knowledge
of classical courses and overseas courses in Ireland as inspiration for
his first 18-hole design, the Smith Signature. Built in 1993, the
course meanders up and down ridges with spectacular views and
challenging green complexes.
Tom Fazio designed his only Michigan course at Treetops in 1992. With
the Jones Masterpiece being touted as one of the toughest courses in
the state at the time, Fazio endeavored to create a more friendly
layout featuring wide fairways, large greens, challenging bunkers, and
one of the best collections of short par 4s found anywhere.
"We are proud to have two courses on the elite list. Both the Premier
and Signature have matured beautifully over the years and have never
been in better condition, Smith said. This recognition by the
panelists of Golfweek further solidifies Treetops' position as one of
the preeminent golf destinations in the country.
