CFB Happenings
In honor of Hunger Awareness Day, Connecticut Food Bank is issuing a "Food Stamp Challenge." While most of us can’t truly
know what it is like to be hungry every day, the Food Stamp Challenge is designed to help us understand the reality of hunger and need in a
meaningful way. Participants are challenged to live on the average food stamp allotment, $5.00 per day, per individual, for one
day, one week or one month, beginning Monday, June 4. You can share your experiences with postings on CT Food Bank's website. For more
information, click here.

Make your voice heard on the 2007 Farm Bill which includes nutrition funding for programs such as Food
Stamps. The Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) has put together an
extensive web page devoted to the Farm Bill and explaining its importance to hunger-relief efforts and other social services. You can
call or visit your legislators, send an e-mail postcard, attend a town
hall meeting, and educate yourself and others about the importance of nutrition programs. For the FRAC Farm Bill web page, click

Last year, Connecticut was selected as one of six new states to implement the
USDA's "Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program"(FFVP)
in 25 schools. While problems with funding delayed implementation until this February, it is already being called a rousing success by
educators. FFVP provides free fresh and dried fruit, and fresh vegetables throughout the school day in one or more areas chosen by the
school. The schools are required to publicize the availability of the fruit and vegetables to all students. FFVP is currently active
in fourteen states and two Indian Tribal Organizations, with the goals of providing healthier food choices, increasing
children’s fruit and vegetable consumption; and improving their overall health. For more on FFVP in Connecticut, click here.
