SUPPORT MEASURE A
Vote February 5
On February 5th, San Franciscans will vote on Proposition A, a $185 million bond to repair and rebuild neighborhood parks and playgrounds, plant
trees, replace restrooms, reinforce recreation centers and restore open space across the City. Among many other benefits, Measure A funds will
support improvements to the stretch of Cargo Way leading to Heron's
Head
Park, making it easier for residents to travel the Blue Greenway and enjoy the open spaces in the southeast part of the City. For
more
information about Measure A and to get a Yes On A house sign, go to www.fixourparks.com.

SAVE CANDLESTICK POINT!
Contact your legislators today
As most readers know, Governor Schwarzenegger's FY 08-09 state budget proposes to close 48 state parks.
The list includes Candlestick Point State Recreation
Area, one
of the very few open spaces in Bayview Hunters Point and a critical wetland and wildlife habitat. Candlestick is in the midst of a multi-year
remediation and restoration project addressing acute contamination from industrial and military pollution. LEJ's Native Plants Nursery at Candlestick
(pictured) trains youth
interns from
Bayview Hunters Point to grow the native plantstock for the Candlestick restoration project. Closing the park throws the future of the
remediation project as a whole into doubt; we urge you to find out more at www.calparks.org and write to your legislators.
Please also save the date April 7 to come to Sacramento for Park Advocacy Day, where you can
tell your
representatives in person that California cannot afford to sacrifice a healthy environment. Watch this space for details, and sign up at www.calparks.org.

PARKS RESTORATION WORKDAY MARATHON
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 2
Heron's Head Park: 9 AM - 3 PM
Candlestick Point: 10 AM - 1 PM
Roll up your sleeves and support the parks in southeast San Francisco at our February workday marathon! Wear appropriate clothing; gloves
and tools provided. All ages welcome. If it's raining heavily, the workday is cancelled.
At Heron's Head Park, you can discover a hidden jewel on the southeast shoreline--a major stop for migratory birds on the Pacific
Flyway. Plant seedlings, remove invasives, and built up wildlife habitat. For more information, contact HHP Educator Anthony Khalil.
Make a direct contribution to the restoration of Candlestick Point SRA with a morning of native planting at Last Port. We will
follow the workday with a potluck BBQ, so bring a salad or something to grill! For more information, contact Nursery Manager Patrick Rump.
Directions to Heron's Head Park:
Take Muni #19 and get off at Jennings St. Cross the road and walk
a block toward the
Bay on Jennings St., past the old power plant. You will arrive at Heron's Head Park on your right.
Directions to Candlestick Point Last
Port
(pdf download; the map is on the last page): Note the location for this workday is not the
Native Plants Nursery! Take 101 to the Monster Park exit. Head east on Harney Way toward the stadium and the Bay. The Last Port
parking lot is on your right about 1/4 mile up the road, before you get to the stadium and the main entrance to Candlestick. We will meet you here;
if lost please call 415-574-5103.
