COASTAL CLEAN-UP DAY
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15

9 AM - NOON

California Coastal Cleanup Day is the premier volunteer event focused on the marine environment in the country, with 50,000 volunteers turning out to over 700 cleanup sites statewide to remove debris from the shorelines and coast.  Coming at the end of the summer beach season and near the start of the school year, Coastal Cleanup Day is a great way for families, students, service groups, and neighbors to join together, take care of the environment, show community support for shared natural resources, learn about the impacts of marine debris and how to prevent them, and have fun!

For the 3rd straight year, LEJ is coordinating California Coastal Cleanup Day for the City and County of San Francisco; this year we have a partner in the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.  Last year, 2,250 SF volunteers collected 7 tons of litter--more than a third of the total debris came from Candlestick Point, and we hope to dedicate twice as many volunteers at that site this year.
Wear sunscreen, shoes, hat, and gloves. When you check in at the cleanup location, you will be given trash bags, pencils, and a special data card to tally the items you collect.

To register yourself or your group, go to the Coastal Cleanup Day site. For more information, contact Patrick Rump sloughyouth@lejyouth.org or Benjamin Stone Francisco heronshead@lejyouth.org

JOIN THE LIVING CLASSROOM STEERING COMMITTEE!

We are seeking advisors with experience in construction projects, legal, and media/marketing as we move ahead with construction of the Living Classroom at Heron's Head Park.  This 1500 square foot facility will be both SF's first 100% off-grid building and the first environmental education center south of Market St. The steering committee meets quarterly, as well as being available for individual consultations on occasion.
